Summer Shaping Up To Be A Disaster For Climate Experts

Climate experts have predicted an ice-free Arctic every summer for the last eight years.

This year is no exception.

US Navy predicts summer ice free Arctic by 2016

Arctic sea ice area hasn’t actually changed for a decade, but facts are irrelevant to climate scientists. They aren’t paid to do science or tell the truth.

This year is starting to look particularly bad for climate scientists. The ice is hardly melting, and very cold weather is forecast over the Beaufort Sea through most of June.

  2. Latitude says:

The wind changes direction and it can lose or gain an entire Egypt in one day…

…how in this world did a measurement of surface floating ice become some barometer for temperature?

Who ever thought that one up was really stupid.

    • Colorado Wellington says:

Jim Hunt is exuberant every time the ice is driven and compacted but I don’t like this idea of entire Egypt getting lost in one day. These guys would get really pissed if it drove them to Libya and Somalia …

      • Colorado Wellington says:

And I don’t want to know what the Sudanese and Ethiopians would think of them marching through …

        • Latitude says:

LOL…I like to use Egypt because it’s 1 million K2’s

Imagine the Arctic ice free…with one whole Egypt sitting in the middle of it…
          ….that’s hardly ice free

        • Analitik says:

They could always go the other way into Palestine, Lebanon, Syriaand Jordan. Israel would be glad to let them through…

  3. AndyG55 says:

Hey, they are sending as many ice-breakers up there as they can. !!

    • Billy Liar says:

In 2008, the Russian icebreaker 50 Years of Victory (50 лет Победы) was the 71st surface ship to visit the pole since Arktika (Арктика) in 1977. The count must be up to over a hundred by now and each one chops up the ice both on its way there and on the way back.

I have little doubt that this has a significant and yet unstudied effect on the arctic ice.

      • Colorado Wellington says:

Greenpeace has been doing their part churning the Arctic ice but I hear that lately they are staying out of the Russians’ way.

They seem to have had a minor disagreement with the Russian coast guard and the FSB successor of the KGB but the technical nuances are hard to understand.

I guess you’d have to be there to appreciate their apprehension.

  4. AndyG55 says:

The next few years as Arctic sea ice starts to climb again, are going to be quite hilarious. :-)

Please keep the “heat” on them, Tony. :-)

  5. Andy DC says:

Reggie’s blowtorch has yet to come into play. When it does you will be sorry!

    • AndyG55 says:

There’s a few ice breakers out there that actually melt the ice if needed.

Will GreenPiss and the WWFools have enough money to hire them ??

    • Jim Hunt says:

In actual fact Reggie’s blowtorch has been working well for a few days!

      • RAH says:

Reggie used up all his fuel in the blow torch over the winter and won’t be able to do a thing about it when the Arctic summer turns out to be colder than usual as the CSFv2 is indicating. Thus the ice will most likely fail to reach the minimum that you want to see so badly Jim.

        • Jim Hunt says:

Evidently you are completely unaware of the astonishing power possessed by Reggie and his blowtorch!

        • Colorado Wellington says:

          Blowtorch, yee-haw!

The strangest thing about these guys is their irrational exuberance.

I know quite a few habitual worrywarts and they are a gloomy bunch. The world is falling apart and nothing can cheer them up.

But Jim Hunt and his pals are outright giddy every time they say they found another proof of catastrophic global warming. They are tickled pink. They sound like they’ll pee themselves from excitement.

Why is that? You would think they’d be miserable because they know the ghastly truth that our CO2 is going to kill us all but we—the wretched deniers—don’t care about their dreadful prophecies.

It’s nearly like Jim doesn’t believe his own bullshit.

          • AndyG55 says:

Let’s see if Jimbo has the courage to answer a simple question .. yes or no answer….

Your bravery and honesty are on show for all to see. Will you fail YET AGAIN.

            So here is the question…

Jimbo, the current level of Arctic sea ice is somewhere between the zero levels of most of the first 3/4 of the Holocene, and the much higher levels of the recent Little Ice Age.

answer Yes, if this is a correct statement
answer No, if it is incorrect.

  6. RAH says:

Joe Bastardi has commented on the Arctic ice in his current Saturday Summary:

    http://www.weatherbell.com/saturday-summary-june-4-2016

His read is that yes the ice is down due to a warmer than usual winter but that this summer it will cooler than usual in most of the Arctic and so the record low being predicted isn’t going to happen.

Good commentary on the coming hurricane season and the ending of the El Nino and what to expect in coming years as the Atlantic and Pacific oscillations both to into their cold phases.

    • AndyG55 says:

Sounds like Joe is on top of it.

      Cooling period coming.

Arctic sea ice to increase over the next several years.

Egg on face time for the alarmist :-)

How fast will the climate models DIVERGE from REALITY as the cooling trend begins.

Will be fun to watch, that’s for sure. :-)

      • RAH says:

A very quiet sun is another factor. Though several scientists have said they expect cycle 25 to be even more muted than cycle 24.

However the local solar expert at WUWTT says this:
        “lsvalgaard
I am travelling so don’t have time for the usual debunking. As the polar fields now are as strong as before the previous minimum and surely will increase a bit more, we can already now forecast a cycle 25 being a bit stronger than cycle 24, so people who predicted a small SC24 and an even smaller SC25 were correct about SC24 for the wrong reason.”

This truck driver thinks that predicting solar cycles when they’re near the minimum or maximums or trying to predict the solar activity from one cycle to the next is a very iffy business.

        • AndyG55 says:

I would trust basically any other solar scientists before I would trust Leif….. A political bully animal if ever there was one.

          • RAH says:

Yes, he is obnoxious, overbearing and contentious and seems to believe he has all the answers. IMO, not a good attitude to have as a researcher or scientist. He shares those characteristics with the likes of Mann. But I have learned some things from him also.

          • AndyG55 says:

I do hope you haven’t learnt anything from Mann.

Lies and deceit are not in your nature.

        • RAH says:

Yes I have even learned something from Mann. Never file a law suit against Mark Steyn. :-)
