Arctic Sea Ice Extent The Same As 2006

Experts say the Arctic is record hot and melting down, but Arctic sea ice extent is the same as eleven years ago. Quite a meltdown.

    Damit!

Why can’t the Ice pack listen to the experts, such as Griff,Jim,Andy and other wailers of the Arctic region?

    WE are doomed I say,DOOMED!

    • TimboA says:

“Arctic Jimmy” with bogus comment in ….three…two…. wait for it!!

    • Andy DC says:

The Arctic sea ice is actually significantly closer to Iceland that it was in 2006. Iceland also recently had its biggest snowstorm in 80 years.

Would alarmists be happy, if Iceland was locked in ice, as it was in the late 1970’s?

Wouldn’t it be HORRIBLE if the Arctic ocean was easily passable for shipping in summertime? As it was thousands of years ago? Or if the Sahara was green, as it was thousands of years ago?

This mild winter has been TERRIBLE! Low heating bills, few travel disruptions and very minimal discomfort over much of the US.

Aren’t repeated record crops in the US Corn Belt HORRIBLE. Far better climate 80 years ago, when CO2 was low and the Corn Belt suffered through years of severe drought and repeated crop failures.

Wasn’t it TERRIBLE that we’ve had no landfalling major hurricanes in the US, now going on for over 10 years, by far a record? Or four straight subnormal tornado seasons?

The alarmists have it all backwards. Bad is good and good is bad.

I don’t ascribe emotional weighting to the science and observations of arctic sea ice.

I merely point out the multiple lines of evidence showing it is at record lows and continues to decline.

If you are convinced that the decline to an ice free summer in the arctic ocean is going to have no effect on climate/warming/weather patterns then I can’t help you with that.

I will howver be along to point out repeatedly you were wrong about it being same as 2006, recovering, not a problem, etc, etc.

Oh and that the NW passage has opened free and clear of ice to all forms of shipping for the 1th consecutive year, I strongly suspect.

Still no takers for a bet on 2017 being in top 3 record low extents?

I wonder what you lot are going to say when we get open water from Russian coast clear to the pole for the first time… a few submarine based anecdotes??

        • AndyG55 says:

“I wonder what you lot are going to say when we get open water from Russian coast clear to the pole for the first time”

CHEERING, finally a small recovery from the extremes of the LIA and 1979. !!

And the Russian will love it ! :-)

Fishing, transport, commerce ocean drilling, all available for the first time after centuries of bitter cold.

    • Gail Combs says:

No Griffy, Andy or Jimmy Boy?

There must be a meeting of Climate-Trolls-R-Us

  2. Latitude says:

For the life of me I will never understand how any sane person would measure the extremes…and get away with it

Extremes are fragile and unstable….wind, storms, ‘weather defects’….any little thing throws them off.

No one should look at anything except arond Dec/Jan and around Apr/May…when it all comes back together

    • Doug says:

For the life of me I will never understand how any sane person would worry if there were a little less ice in the Arctic.

      • Latitude says:

        ok….well then there’s that too

      • Gator says:

        Sane people don’t.

      • AndyG55 says:

        But they do.

I often ask the Arctic worriers why the think its an issue, mentioning the massive benefits for local population for fishing, commerce, transport. etc etc

I also like to mention drilling for oil and gas.. which for some reason upsets them even more. :-)

        • Gator says:

Arctic Worrying is a mental disorder.

          • AndyG55 says:

Despite the Arctic Jet Stream wobble holding that “less cold” anomaly over the Franz Josef area for most of the Arctic winter, Arctic sea ice is still at a greater extent than 2015 and 2016

That must really annoy them, I hope. ;-)

Its sad that the same Jet Stream issues caused so much cold , death and hardship in northern Russia. But you won’t read that from them or the MSM. Just the tiny variations in Arctic sea ice are important. !!

          • griff says:

Andy, the extent may hovering around the lowest points in the satellite record – you can’t say it has recovered to even the mid point of the range seen 1979 to present – but extent can be high when a lot of thin ice is spread out, as it is now.

The ice is thinner and has less mass than in 2006 or the start of last year. The condition of it is worse.

          • gator69 says:

Thanks for illustrating my point Ms Griff.

          • AndyG55 says:

So griff, worried about a bit of sea ice getting back slowly towards pre-LIA norms..

but zero comment of the plight of those suffering freezing cold and death and hardship in northern Russia..

You really are one sick, evil, anti-human, and very ignorant, little cretin, griff.

        • CheshireRed says:

It’s a great point and one I’ve often thought of. Someone please explain, EXACTLY what negative impacts (and only negative, note!) are caused by a little less ice in one region of the world? Btw the albedo card is often played yet those who do so forget that the reason it’s so bloody cold is the lack of solar energy at the poles, so whatever ‘increased albedo’ could be caused by less sea ice surely amounts to not much of bugger all.

        • Frank K. says:

These are the same people who constantly worry about: too many/ too few hurricanes and tornadoes, too much/too little rain, wind, and snow, too hot/too cold temperatures, too high/too low ocean acidity, … the list goes on.

You see, everything in our atmosphere must be EXACTLY the way it was in 1950. EXACTLY. That was the perfect year. And only WE can control it through our use of “clean” energy, “clean” foods, “clean” lifestyles.

          • Gail Combs says:

I would love to see 1950 USA POLITICALLY with Pres. Eisenhower and the major growth of the US manufacturing, high real wages and a christian community based society… (I could do without the pollution though.)

Wouldn’t mind having my parents alive again either but I could do without my Ex-brother. I prefer my new brother Latitude.

          • gator69 says:

Frank, if it’s in a musical, it’s real… to them.

that was nice…..I’ve got a big smile now!

            Sis!

PIOMAS Arctic sea ice volume for February since 1979.

Please feel free to “spot the difference” between 2006 and 2017:

The Not existing cold still kills.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said: “Ms Williams may have fallen in the driveway walking to her car.

“Ms Haley may have tripped on a rug on the floor of the garage as she attempted to enter her house to call for assistance.”

Police believe the women died of hypothermia.

Temperatures had dropped overnight to as low as 11F (-11C).
