December 22 temperatures peaked in the US in 1933, and have been declining for a century.

On this date in 1933, it was 89 degrees in Texas, 82 degrees in New Mexico, 71 degrees here in Boulder, 73 degrees in Nebraska, 66 degrees in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. More than half of the US was over 60 degrees.
