China Building 259 Gigawatts Of New Coal Capacity

Building work has restarted at hundreds of Chinese coal-fired power stations, according to an analysis of satellite imagery. The research, carried out by green campaigners CoalSwarm, suggests that 259 gigawatts of new capacity are under development in China. The authors say this is the same capacity to produce electricity as the entire US coal fleet.

As Beijing Joins Climate Fight, Chinese Companies Build Coal Plants

Chinese corporations are building or planning to build more than 700 new coal plants at home and around the world, some in countries that today burn little or no coal, according to tallies compiled by Urgewald, an environmental group based in Berlin. Many of the plants are in China, but by capacity, roughly a fifth of these new coal power stations are in other countries.

Over all, 1,600 coal plants are planned or under construction in 62 countries, according to Urgewald’s tally, which uses data from the Global Coal Plant Tracker portal. The new plants would expand the world’s coal-fired power capacity by 43 percent. The fleet of new coal plants would make it virtually impossible to meet the goals set in the Paris climate accord

The NYT is also ignorant in making a distinction between Beijing (the government) and business. The senior executive leader of a large company is a delegate to the National People’s Congress and boards of medium and large companies have Communistic Party representation, as well as members placed within staff. State Sponsored Enterprises are even more entrenched with and move in lock step with the Communist Party (Beijing).

That’s a good point… and a good illustration of Marxism in practice. The Bourgeoisie still run everything, just under a different name. The Proletariat still get the shaft …. they just move from the rice fields to the Foxconn megafactory

Cannot be true! Griff told us “China is to stop or delay work on 151 planned and under-construction coal plants”; that they are already “stopping” CO2 growth and will soon stop building coal plants ahead of their cushy 2030 “commitment” – because, not only have they have already met their CO2 emissions target, but that Beijing’s need for coal energy has “flat-lined.”

Another Communist country trashing the air with particulates, and water with coal pile runoff. What a surprise… Marx and Engels would be proud of the progress they spawned.
Given the corruption and incompetence within Chinese construction industry, we’ll see how many of these complex plants get built properly

  5. Disillusioned says:

Our resident fascist has told us the need for energy in China is flat-lining.

It couldn’t be that the UN want us to believe a false dichotomy. It couldn’t be.

China’s need for energy is flat-lining. BELIEVE!

  6. Australia tries not to burn
    their inexpensive coal,
    to avoid adding “carbon pollution”
    to the air.

So they sell their coal to China,
    where it is burned, adding
“carbon pollution” to the air !

And as a result, Australia has
    very high electricity prices,
and China has low energy prices !

How that for a “shoot yourself
in the foot” energy policy ?
