The People Who Want To Blot Out The Sun …

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.

– Albert Einstein

Trevor thinks summer in Antarctica and winter in Boston is a sign of climate change.

Trevor Nace on Twitter:

December and January are the warmest months at that location, with a December record maximum of 53 degrees – thirteen degrees warmer than the December 13th temperature this year.

Belgrano II Base – Wikipedia

Antarctica is getting 24 hours of sunlight this time of year.

Trevor also wants to blot out the sun in the Southwest – the same Sun which everybody moved to the Southwest for – to get out of the cold.

Harvard Scientists Begin Experiment To Block Out The Sun

I’m inclined to believe Antarctic ice will survive the -40 degree temperatures they are currently experiencing.

Climate Reanalyzer

Sea surface temperatures around Antarctica are running well below normal, and have been for a long time.

Well, he is (according to his Twitter) a PHD so we need to trust what he says to be accurate.

    • James Hall says:

I will assume that your comment is meant to be totally facetious. Theoretical speculation about how to “combat” climate change is one (very naive) thing – proactive steps proposed by agenda-driven scientists to actually change the environment are another thing altogether and should be discouraged in the strongest possible way. Just my opinion (as a Ph.D. Physicist)…

    • Kim says:

I know little about science but luckily I have a brain and can use my brainiac daughter and google to do research. This is the beginning of “THEM” trying to control the food.

That callous statement is not funny — by even the most senical person.

  2. Dave N says:

    “Are you daft?”

Most obviously. “Science contributor” seems to be some kind of pathetic joke. I’m astounded that Forbes, usually a rational publication, allow him to contribute anything at all.

    Et tu, Forbes?

  3. rah says:

There was a time I respected the title of PhD. That passed long ago.

  4. AndyDC says:

Comparing summer temperatures to winter temperatures brings cherry picking to an unprecedented level.

    • R Shearer says:

I actually liked the experiment (on a very small scale which is the proposal), but now I have to question his motivation even more.

  5. Menicholas says:

Can it be he is unaware that December is late Spring in the southern hemisphere?
A Harvard PhD, who knows less than a third grader when I was in grade school?

  6. Menicholas says:

Record high for December is 54 degrees.
It can be 40F there in any month from October to March.
This guy is an idiot or a deliberate liar.

  7. Nutation_discombobulation says:

How does he think the penguins raise their chicks? If it’s too cold and the ice doesn’t melt they all die.
Many of the hoihoi, yellow eyed penguins here have chosen not to breed this summer, apparently they instinctively know it’s a bad year to do so with a possible El Nino brewing and likelihood of minimal food supplies and cold weather. They know more about climate than so called climate scientists.

This PhD dude sounds like he’d be right at home with Cheech and Chong.

    • arn says:

How does he think plants grow?

      Less sun=less food.

Now imagine they are as accurate in calculating the dimming as they are in predicting the climate,
the pollutant may be 1000% stronger than predicted and last 10* longer.
This would turn into a huge famine, espacially when you shut down power plants and people freeze to death.

      Modern science these days:
Polluting the air with stuff that does not belong there = good.
      Co2 in the air=pollutant.

as long as people with such a mindset exist guns must be mandatory for normal people to defend themselves from such looneys.

O Higgins: German Antarctic Receiving Station (GARS)
Much farther north than Belgrano had just enough snow free rocks to make the nests.

  8. Disillusioned says:

    He doesn’t think.

    • Anon says:

I a week more, will be the start of Summer in the Southern Hemisphere and the longest day of the year, in which the Sun rises to it’s highest point on the horizon. I guess they stopped teaching that sort of thing at Harvard. Or more likely, when you have a degree from Harvard, you no longer need to recognize such trivialities. (facepalm)

      • arn says:

When science becomes a contest in virtue signalling where do gooders with the best intentions get promoted instead of those with the best skills
than even basic knowledge becomes a rarity
as logical result of this negative selection.
Eventually everything is run by crooks and slimebags and those will systematically exclude people with skill and integrity as they pose a threat to the unksilled masters and the system.

Harvard Graduates explain the reason for the seasons.

        • R Shearer says:

I always notice that it’s warmer in summer and I have to lean a little to the North to keep my balance. (Also I get sleepy when there is more CO2 in the room.)

  9. ScottyNZ says:

I don’t have a PhD, so as a laymen just searched the historical temperature records for the Belgrano II base and see that early December 2015, it recorded 44 degrees that day. So Mr Nace must have missed that date to tweet as well.

I cannot yet comprehend the reason for that particular Twitter comment from the learnered person, except for keeping the pigs nose in the green trough! (I assume the USA dollar bill is still green?). Pointless social media drivel alert.

  10. Gamecock says:

‘Harvard Scientists Begin Experiment To Block Out The Sun’

This is a capital offense. I’m not kidding. They are threatening 8 billion people. This cannot go unpunished.

    • R Shearer says:

They’re not even pissing in the wind. It will have no effect beyond a minimal area.

      • Gamecock says:

‘this will be the first real attempt at controlling Earth’s temperature through solar engineering.’

        Pissing in the wind?

    • Mary says:

Perhaps instead of a computer running the info, the scientist could sit in an enclosed room and have different chemicals pumped into his atmosphere to see if it is safe and cools his room. If no harm comes to him then maybe it is safe. They should not be allowed to experiment on the worlds population without every single persons written consent.

  11. Lasse says:

Wait a minute-this has been done before!
Global dimming is a known effect -when the sun shines a bit less due to more clouds due to more sulphur particles in the air.
Since 1980 the air is getting cleaner and less particles gives less clouds.
    Solar brightening.
Martin Wild has an article on this.
And it means a lot more energy on the ground! 10% more in Sweden .
It might even give some extra warming.

  12. Psalmon says:

Amundsen tried leaving for the pole in Mid september…like mid March in the North. He encountered -55 to -60 F temperatures and the party and dogs wer frostbitten and almost killed. He had to wait until late October to start. They reached the Pole on Dec 11 wgich is amazing as tems are still freezing up on the Plateau.

  13. Joe Banks says:

What good us blocking the sun if the only thing that controls climate is CO2. They are always saying the strength of the sun has no effect on climate.

  14. steve case says:

Anyone who wants to dump crap in the atmosphere just to see what it does should be found guilty of a crime and sent to prison. Such a bill should be run through congress and passed into law.

  15. GCsquared says:

“This guy is an idiot or a deliberate liar.”

I wish he really WERE an idiot. After all that’s been published by Tony, and comparison with the yellow-press journalism and censorship throughout the “official” news, there’s no doubt that “climate change” is a deliberately crafted hoax. And a mighty successful one at that.

A problem I have with some of the posts here is a willingness to ridicule climate idiocy as a product of stupidity. IMHO, calling agents and dupes of this effort “stupid” dangerously underestimates the intelligence of an enemy who is a master of propaganda and persuasion. (OK, the humor DOES help).

If anyone has successfully changed someone’s attitude toward media reporting, from one of trust, to one of analysis, let me know how you did it. I don’t know how many I’ve spoken to who say that their favorite sources wouldn’t be running all these reports on Climate Change if they weren’t true, only because they don’t believe that deceit is possible on such a grand scale.

    • neal s says:

My own mistrust of the media started by being a member of which basically covered the intersection of computer technology and law.

Groklaw covered SCO v. IBM, SCO v. Novell, SCO v. AutoZone, SCO v. DaimlerChrysler and Red Hat v. SCO lawsuits We had transcripts of the legal documents filed in plain text and transcripts of teleconferences and media events. Volunteers would attend court sessions.

We could see that the media reporting was some combination of lies and/or spin. We had technical people who could look at code from Unix and Linux and compare and contrast them and so see the lies that the corporate world wanted to spread about Linux.

    • Disillusioned says:

GCS: Regarding your last paragraph, I haven’t a clue how. When I first became disillusioned by the data, I thought all I’d have to do is present it to my friends and they’d see what I see. I found out immediately I was talking to a wall of denial and even hostility in some cases. I had become unstable in their eyes, more like the enemy.

My own friends and family proved to me that Climate Change™ is a religious cult, fed daily by a bombardment of false claims and predictions of doom, and that no amount of dissenting data can sway the unwilling. They think of themselves as open-minded and ‘liberal,’ but their minds on the topic are closed tightly.

What makes me different, and other former believers as Anon, spike55 et al. – we have open minds and were willing to look at all the data and to consider that the hyped-pothesis of AGW (which we believed in strongly) might be wrong. IMO, that alone helps to set up the first cracks in the paradigm toward disillusionment.

      • Who'sJoe says:

So you don’t believe in climate change?
        Are you ok?

        • Disillusioned says:

It is too bad you didn’t read and comprehend what I said in that post. It had absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the climate changes. I will try again.

I (we) followed where the data led, and had a powerful awakening. Once the veil is removed, once enlightened, there is no going back to the blindness and ignorance of beliefbefore. Disillusionment isn’t something one can undo.

Lastly, about your non sequitur questions: But of course the climate changes. Geological data show us it always has changed, and no belief in what politicized scientists and your favorite media tell you is necessary to understand that. But, no, I emphatically do not – anymore – “believe” in the top-down, international government-sponsored, U.N. Agenda kind of blame the phantom boogie man (greenhouse gasses) type of impending catastrophic “climate change” we are being force fed. If you don’t understand the difference, stick around. It will soon enough become clear.

And yes, I am okay. Thanks. ;)

        • Gator says:

Where’s Joe’s Brain, nobody here would be stupid enough to deny that our climate is changing, just as it always has. Only the truly ignorant deny natural climate change.

    • Menicholas says:

Well, I did say that it was possible he is a liar.
But I think it cannot be 100% ruled out that he is dumb as a head of cabbage.

Those damn scientists are stealing my right to sunlight. Thatshould be a federal offence !!!
