Why The Arctic Is Not Going To Become Ice Free

Science is the belief in the ignorance of the experts

– Richard Feynman

There is no trend in Arctic sea ice volume over the past eleven years.

The animation below shows daily sea ice volume since 2007, animated by month.   The trend in January, June, July, August, September, October, November and December sea ice volume is up.

Almost all melting occurs in June and July. Summer is too short to melt all the ice, particularly since summer temperatures near the North Pole have been running below normal for the past eighteen years. By early August, the sun is too low in the sky to melt much ice near the pole.

The world’s leading climate experts keep predicting an ice-free Arctic.  They have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.

    WHAT???

What do you mean “The Arctic Is Not Going To Become Ice Free” ???

Are you kidding me? … THEY PROMISED ME!!! … for at least 30 years now they have been promising me! .. year after year after year after year they have promised!! … now you are telling me NO? … What the hell?

Who can I sue? .. I wanna sue someone! .. they promised me an ice free Arctic and by God I want my ice free Arctic. I’m not going to test until the Arctic is completely, 100%, Ice Free!!! … I don’t want a single freaking ice cube in that ocean! .. I want it, as they promised, ice freaking free!!!

Griff’s got it ice-free in 2030. Until then we can just chill-out.

She must be some kind of expert, maybe she reads Seth Borenstein, but if conditions persist, and so far (despite all the expert predictions) they have, I don’t see an ice-free Arctic in 2030.

Some big shifts have to start happening like right now. And so far, nada.

  2. Disillusioned says:

It is a sure thing. It is going to be ice-free either in the month of ‘may’ or the month of ‘could be.’

  3. Phil. says:

Almost all melting occurs in June and July.
Well ~11/17ths of the volume recently.

    • rah says:

That sea ice grows and declines more as a result of currents and winds than anything else. It is one of the poorest gauges of climate one could choose.
