Arctic sea ice moving up into new territory.

James Hansen : ‘This is the last chance’
6/23/2008
“We see a tipping point occurring right before our eyes,” Hansen told the AP before the luncheon. “The Arctic is the first tipping point and it’s occurring exactly the way we said it would.”
Hansen, echoing work by other scientists, said that in five to 10 years, the Arctic will be free of sea ice in the summer.

The alarming loss of sea ice which has grown worse each summer over the past several decades, has taken a sharp turn for the worse: this year the loss is right in the middle, the most resilient part of the ice cover. This could lead to a completely ice-free Arctic Ocean by September.

Another 150.000sq.km added yesterday.
At this rate, it will be way above all the recent years in that graph in just two more days.
The DMI graph doesn’t show the years before 2005, but according IARC-JAXA-IS, 2008 was the greatest ice extent since 2002, *at some point of the beginning of December*, tied with 2002, 03 and 04.

Then, *if* DMI shows the extent *above 2008 in the next ~ 2 weeks* we know that it’s also the highest since 2002, inclusive.
The DMI graph shows 2008 clearly above the other years for a short period, probably the first week, of December.
2001 was relatively large too, but 2000 was below 2001 (Cryosphere Today: http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/), then if we get above 2008 in early December the Arctic ice extent will be at 2nd or 1st place *for the entire century*! (last 13 years)
After the record lows of the recent years, this is not bad at all for a recovery.
The aspect that is impressing me most is the rate of growth.
It is clearly greater, for this time of the year, than any of the other years depicted in the graph. I only hope that it’ll continue.
I’m learning so much with what is happening in the climate since 2008, a new lesson every other week.
The clueless, being lied to by the Eco morons so the nutter politicians can make ludicrous statements.
You have to admire modern environmentalism.
Where are the polar ice criers of doom hiding these days?
Snicker…………..
They are sidestepping these facts and instead talking about how the poor polar bears are rotting away due to radiation from Fukushima.
The Sierra Club guy is particularly funny, he reaffirmed his terrible prediction in July of this year. If these guys can’t make a solid prediction a mere three months in the future then why does anyone expect they can be right in the year 2100?
He’ll die with his lie, that’s what “honorable” liars do.
This has to be a GOP dirty trick.
So is the heat hiding in the Koch brothers basement or did Dick Cheney finally resolve that nasty hurricane-producing side effect of his industrial scale ice-making machine?
Sierra Club–Clueless and completely ignorant. 11,000 years of stable climate???
11,000 years ago (according to all generally accepted paleo-records) we were coming out of the last major ice age. Lake Agassi was forming from the melt. The lake was much larger than the combined area of he five great lakes. The last ice age formed the 10,000 lakes here in MN.
(actually, there are about 15,000)
Most studies reveal that much of the N. American continent was uninhabitable 4,000 years ago.
From this scientific wannabe about a dozen tried to navigate the Northern Passage this summer.
Talk about the blind leading the blind.
Wow, lucky I had the good fortune of finding cheap winter gear to prepare for snow and ice back in august. Looks like it’s going to be needed quite soon, this year also.
Mr Hansen I have a question –
Have all the points tipped yet?
About Kerry’s prediction: Missed it by that much!
AGW is failed science. God save the Queen!
Warming back up to temperatures before the Little Ice Age would be great. Farms and vine yards in Greenland would be wonderful. All that land that is locked up in ice in Siberia and northern Canada, tens of millions of acres, would be available for farming and expansion. An ice free northwest passage will spur trillions in trade and resource development. Warmer temperatures in the Arctic and Antarctica would reduce the severity of storms by reducing the temperature difference.
Apparently that’s what Arrhenius thought too. It wasn’t until AGW was added to modern environmentalism that warmth was considered the bane of human existence, as well as the planet’s. (read this in Duvall’s The Age of Global Warming, which I highly recommend)
