Very good job of doucmenting a year (1954) that makes the alarmist claim of “more extreme weather” look quite pathetic. I believe one fact about Hazel not stated was that there were close to 100 storm related deaths in Toronto alone.
As if 1954 was not bad enough, 1955 produced 3 hurricanes with landfalls in North Carolina, Connie, Diane and Ione. Connie and Diane, only a few days apart caused catastrophic flooding in the Northeast which I believe at the time was the costliest disaster in US history.
Can you imagine if those hurricanes had hit this year? Absolute, incontrovertible proof of climate change!
My parents lost their roof in Boston to Carol. They often talked about it.
There is good evidence that ocean patterns are similar now to what they were in the 1950s, encouraging hurricanes to head up the east coast. More evidence for 60-year cycles.
There are some people in the Boston area that thought Carol was as bad, if not worse than the famous 1938 hurricane. There was also another hurricane during 1944 in New England that wasn’t half bad either.

The esteemed must certainly understand oscillatory functions, including the stimuli and environment needed for phase change, along with the necessary ingredients and conditions required for dipole reversal. Surely they understand the important ocean-atmosphere relationships and interactions between the Indian ocean dipole, the PDO and full MEI, the North Atlantic Oscillation, the Atlantic meridional overturning oscillation, the southern ocean stream and of course the seeding of clouds through electromagnetic radiation of all flavors, wavelengths and arrival angles:)
