It Took Police Eleven Minutes To Get To Sandy Hook Elementary

I used to ride my bike past the Newtown police station and Sandy Hook Elementary School on my way to work. The ride is down a steep hill and took less than ten minutes on my bicycle. The police took eleven minutes to get there, while 26 people were killed.

Lanza killed himself as soon as the police showed up. Had there been an armed person in the building, the massacre most likely never would have happened.

During those eleven minutes before the police arrived and finally closed in on his position, Lanza was completely unopposed by any armed individual, using the time to fire over a hundred rounds to kill 26 people – 6 adults and 20 children.

Would placing trained armed guards or police officers in the nation’s public schools then really be so unreasonable? Shouldn’t public officials have a special obligation to ensure the safety of our children when they are compelled to be placed in their care? Can there possibly be a good reason why the pro-gun control Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence’s extensive 41 page-long list of all on and off-school campus shooting incidents since 31 January 1997 contains just one mention of any kind of security guard

Private security would be OK. Police would be coopted into the war on drugs and would wind up infringing on liberty far more than protecting it.

Steven , thank you for keeping this information in front of people . When a person looks at the facts the idea of gun control becomes ludicrous .

In tiny Texas town, teachers are armed with concealed weapons, a ‘better’ solution than a security guard – NY Daily News
HARROLD, Texas  — In this tiny Texas town, children and their parents don’t give much thought to safety at the community’s lone school — mostly because some of the teachers are carrying concealed weapons. In remote Harrold, the nearest sheriff’s office is 30 minutes away, and people tend to know — and trust — one another. So the school board voted to let teachers bring guns to school. “We don’t have money for a security guard, but this is a better solution,” Superintendent David Thweatt said. “A shooter could take out a guard or officer with a visible, holstered weapon, but our teachers have master’s degrees, are older and have had extensive training. And their guns are hidden. We can protect our children.

Firing 100 rounds in 10 minutes does requires nothing more than ANY modern firearm, and 100 rounds of ammo. I can do much better than than with my shotgun.

  7. Robert Austin says:

Having some employees armed is a much superior solution compared to the the security guard/police officer idea. First, there is little or no expense. Second, a perpetrator does not know who is armed. Thirdly, an employee would be intimately aware of who belongs in the school and who is out of place. Fourthly, protection would be spread around the facility rather than located at one easily identifiable location. Fifthly, an employee trained in firearms use is likely as qualified as your average policeman/security guard in firearms handling. And finally, the employee is more likely to lay their life on the line in protecting their charges than an outside agency.

And did they wait outside, cowering behind their cars until the shooting stopped, like at columbine??
