It is actually… But I would agree with you in the sense that evolutionary theory is prone to a lot of fanciful “just so” stories that have no relationship to the science itself. Sort of reminds me of another research field popular at the moment…

I’m going to back Steven on this. I myself have been adamant that we don’t mix creationism with climate skepticism. But Steven hasn’t done anything of the sort here. There no implicit or explicit advocacy of creationism in Steven’s innocuous wording. So, what’s up Will?
If you say evolutionary theory is a religion, then it’s reasonable to assume that person is a Creationist, as this is what Creationist assert more than anyone else. In a like manner if someone claims catastrophic global warming theory is a religion, they are probably sceptics. 😉

Will, faux liberals treat Darwinism as if it is their religious big time. Trust me. I had my doubts about evolution over a few things and they went psycho over it calling me bible thumper retard, etc,. They would much prefer if it was not challenged at all. It is NO DIFFERENT than challenging global warming, sun scare, saturated fat and cholesterol consumption causing heart disease and so on. To label us as flat earth people, etc just because we challenged their dogma over evolution is idiotic..
OK Will, but from another thread, maybe it’s time to stop blaming Bush. Sure, in retrospect, the Iraq War perhaps could be considered unhelpful, but it is Obama’s Carteresque policies and speeches that has opened the “Arab Spring” floodgates of militant Islam throughout the middle east and northern Africa.
Obama’s policies directly follow on from Bush’s stated goals. If this turns out well Bush will get the credit. Historically I don’t see how Obama will be acknowledged given his low key approach. Bush and Obama’s military and economic polices are indistinguishable. Obama does it with less chest thumping, that is all. Which is a more sensible approach than that of Bush. Obama will be remembered for his utterly catastrophic economic policies, which also copy all the mistakes of Bush, except on steroids. As described by someone else on these forums recently, both presidents may best be characterized as pin heads.
Will, it goes much further back. FDR’s policies very well have been responsible for the mess we face now. Even Woodrow Wilson over Federal Reserve. It’s a lot more complicated than it looks…

McKibben’s tweet, if anything, proves this moron doesn’t know a thing about climate. The climate of the Midwest, in the locations cited in the article, simply isn’t conducive for tree health, which is why they die. Periodic severe drought/flood, very early/late freezes, crippling ice storms, strong winds via derecho, tornadoes, rapid temperature changes from Blue Northers/Chinook winds, etc., all are detrimental to the health of trees. This rings even more true when considering many of the trees found in these areas either aren’t native or are cultivars.
I find it stunning how these people get paid millions of dollars for their ignorance.
I would encourage you to read or listen to some of McKibben’s other works that is not climate science related. This may lead you to the conclusion that he actually doesn’t know much about anything.
I get to hear that fool on NPR all the time. I live in the Northeast so he’s always on WAMC yukking it up with Alan Chartock about their Leftist fantasies.

Might I add all this proves is the climate of the Midwest is acting exactly as it should – killing off the species of trees not meant to grow in such a climate.

McKibben is just attention-starved. Why doesn’t he go to China and protest their building coal plants? That would really get him some attention.
