A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.
White House weighs broad gun-control agenda in wake of Newtown shootings – The Washington Post
Adam Lanza did not purchase a gun, and he killed both his mother and himself. None of these regulations would have had any impact towards preventing the shooting. Mass murderers don’t care about laws, consequences or punishment. Are they going to put Lanza’s dead body in jail for carrying a gun near a school? How freaking stupid is our vice-president?
The only thing that would have prevented the shooting was having someone else armed at the school.
strengthen mental health checks,
Oh, yeah. Right.
Just getting past “California” will take decades – with no conclusive result.
That would exclude a large portion of the far left and far right from ever going near a firearm again.
track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database,
Apparently they plan to use the same database that they use for tracking illegal aliens.
Or the Project Gunwalker one since it has proven how well it works.
GunBroker, NRA and GunsAmerica are running a petitions to which… “President Obama answered all of the gun petitions, for and against, in one note and video. He did not answer ours specifically. You can read his response here on the original petition page. I do feel that he should have answered us directly because we doubled the requisite number of petition signatures, but he did clearly acknowledge law abiding gun owners in his answer at least. If you read between the lines of what he said and wrote, the President appears to be notifying us that his political hands are tied and that we need to act now by contacting our congress members directly, and also by letting him know what we think of his answer.”

“How freaking stupid is our vice-president?”
Hasn’t that been answered several (hundred) times in the past?
It’s a slow process they do to erode your freedoms so it doesn’t seem as bad, it’s like being nickel and dimed to death. .

Steve, another bit of breaking news from the area …
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/04/gun-permit-database-rockland/1809617/
This is USA Today coverage of a story making the rounds in the downstate counties ( above NYC ).
We are seeing a few newly minted heroes pop up in our area thanks to the insanity of these Journal News idiots. Yeah, they’re gonna plead First Amendment on this, but it is worse than the “fire in a crowded theater” exception. Newspapers have no more immunity under the First Amendment to do this than I have from blowing someone away under the Second Amendment. If the First Amendment had as many restrictions as the Second Amendment, there would be howling from the newspapers.

Seems like there ought to be a penumbra out there somewhere that can protect a gun permit owner’s right to privacy.
I believe murder is already outlawed. Doesn’t seem to stop people.
An interesting communication to Ms Feinstein –
“Senator Dianne Feinstein,
I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
We, the people, deserve better than you.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joshua Boston
