In 1951, increased solar activity caused lakes to vanish, glaciers to shrink, and frightened birds.
Climate scientists are much smarter now, and know that the Sun does not actually influence the climate.

A grade journalism.
” The Great Salt Lake in Utah lost nearly 50% of its volume since 1850. The salt content has doubled during that time.”
LOL. These guys must have been paid by the word; back in the days when they could actually do arithmetic.
I find it very interesting how *new* the knowledge about the influence of the Sun on Earth’s climate is, just because our knowledge about the Sun is itself in its infancy.
At that time (1950’s) the PDO was entering a negative phase

but the radiations of cycle 19 were so intense (with peak around 1958)

that they forced the oscillation into positive mode for a couple of years.
Probably, the low intensity of the present cycle will have exactly the opposite effect with the AMO.
Ok, I’m confused.
Sun Spots 1949 to 1951, 1949 they were high, 1951 they were low.
Down the page there is a chart.
