1974 State Of The Climate Report – Global Cooling Will Kill Us All

The White House released their state of the climate report today, saying that global warming was going to cause floods, famines, extreme weather, and will kill us all.

This comes almost exactly 40 years after the government wrote a state of the climate report saying that global cooling was going to cause floods, famines, extreme weather, and would kill us all.

re: United States (April 1973)-“flood of the century along the Great Lakes”

This would appear to the result of a Nor’easter storm on Green Bay that caused flooding 4 feet deep in downtown Green Bay (Wisconsin).

” Flood waters reached the elevation of the 500-year flood as strong winds blowing the length of the bay produced storm surge on already high lake levels.”

“The 1973 storm occurred during a period of higher lake levels, but even during low lake level periods, coastal storms can produce high waves and storm surge. For example, in December, 1990 a winter storm produced the largest recorded water level in the lake, at the Green Bay gage, located at the southern tip of Green Bay (Jensen et al., 2012). Then again on December 9, 2009, the same gage recorded a peak storm surge ranked as the second highest for the gage.”

A FEMA report on the Great Lakes – Lake Michigan Basin dated February 2013 citing the 1973 flooding in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Figure 6 on Page 21 has a chart of historic lake levels from 1918 to 2011.

The “long term annual average” shows flat, whereas the Mean Monthly level shows month-month all over the place …

Yes, back then it was pollution (man-made), overpopulation (man-caused), insecticide use (man-made), Global Cooling (immanent); and Famine (absolutely certain).

All of it tosh and nonsense.

CO2? Harmless. Beneficial to life as a matter of fact. Any kind of disaster being predicted from the small amount of warming is more nonsense.

  4. Brian G Valentine says:

I trace the origin of the beatnik/Communist/jobless transition to the “environmental movement” to Rachel Carson, unless somebody can prove otherwise.

    Congrats to her

Flares, side-whiskers, matching shirts and ties, glam rock. I rest my case.

  6. Otter (ClimateOtter on Twitter) says:

There was a huge comment-thread on this on Tom Nelson’s site, with davy appell. I linked him to this very report… he could not see that it said anything about cooling.

  7. Andy Oz says:

From this, I understand that there will be a “War On Climate” in the near future.
Where do I sign up and do I get a gun?

    • _Jim says:

Get in line for the “money” first (that’s where everybody else will be! No joke! “Follow the money” THEN Count De Money!)

Nigeria going down the drain. Lybia in chaos. Syria a homicidal mess. Ukraine on the edge of civil war. If the Russians capture any of the American soldiers helping the Ukrainians, there will be open scale war and invasion up to Romania. China can’t wait to get Taiwan.

    Obama talks climate.

It’s all he’s got left to ‘divide’ us against ourselves … part of step number whatever (3) in identifying a sociopath:

      – Trying to pit friends/family [or citizens of the same country!] members against each other. If the liar was involved in an argument he or she may change the details so that he or she looks better. Also, he or she may involve other parties, making up information about the other party in order to get more people on his or her side.

  9. Walt says:

We will look back on this time as the price we paid for allowing our
country to sink into the abyss of relativism, group think and equality
at all costs— this is truly a re-descent into the dark ages of our human
    history— God help us

  10. Brian H says:

Cooling may yet indeed kill us all. Putting all resources to guard against warming would help that along.
