Climate experts say that they predicted expanding Antarctic sea ice all along, which is why they have been telling us for years that melting sea ice threatens penguins.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Reblogged this on CLINGERS… BLOGGING BAD ~ DICK.G: AMERICAN !.
I’m going to quibble just a little bit about your details here. It was not a prediction, they claim it was an actual measurement of reduced Antarctic sea ice.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/3318079/Penguins-now-threatened-by-global-warming.html
Note the use of past tense there…
The global warming alarmists in the 1980s did predict that both polar regions would warm and decrease their sea ice area. “The maximum warming near West Antarctica is associated with the largest reduction in sea ice cover there” – Hansen etal 1980s ‘Climate Sensitivity to Increasing Greenhouse Gases’ ( bit.ly/17q1Tap ) Their predictions were wrong. But rather than admit their predictions failed, they attempt to revise history, fabricate increasingly wilder dog-ate-my-homework excuses. The true mark of a religious cult.
However, I was responding to what Steve linked to.
Point taken. I wasn’t disputing your post, just pointing out that the warmists predicted that Antarctic would warm and sea ice would decrease there too, so it was another failed prediction, as Steve has pointed out before.
Every year since around 2005 there has been a lot of alarmist sea ice reports of catastrophic polar meltdown, broadcast live and in print. I watched one just last week about an Ice burg the size of “Birmingham” breaking away from Antarctica..
that’s nothing!
http://www.warwickhughes.com/climate/Iceberg.htm
[3] In 1893 (after arriving in Nelson in September 92), the iron sailing ship “Margaret Galbraith” was homeward bound around Cape Horn. Mr. N.H. Burgess the 2nd Officer reported that from three days north of the Falklands to about one weeks sailing north of the Falklands they were “among the ice,” which culminated with a days sailing past a single giant berg “40 to 50 miles long,”
50 miles – London to Brighton.
Another reference to icebergs further north than “normal” is found in Basil Lubbock’s book, The Log of the “Cutty Sark”.
Starting on page 282 after recounting episodes on a voyage around Cape Horn in February when Cutty Sark encountered a large ice field (including icebergs ~20 miles long) starting north of the Falkland Islands at 50 degrees north.
Lubbock says; “This ice was encountered by every ship bound round the Horn in 1892 and 1893, and extended from 44 degrees to 55 degrees South and from 25 degrees to 52 degrees West. Evidently a huge continent of Antarctic ice had broken adrift during the summer weather, and was in the grip of the current slowly working north.”
Thanks. I thought the suggestion of the ice burgs scale without context was an unusual angle for a news report. everyone needs to have a built in BS detector. The disgusting part is the information was on a state funded channel.
When land glacier ice melts, it drains away peaceably from the bottom. When it grows into the ocean, eventually it gets so far out it begins to break off.
“.. In this area, an important breeding area for the penguins, sea ice has been forming later and receding earlier and covering a smaller average area each winter. Sea ice now covers 40 per cent less area than it did 26 years ago off the West Antarctic Peninsula..””
I my opinion, in the above text they’re clearly talking about the present, although using the past tense.
They’re reaching the point where every phrase they say contradicts the previous one, and this is an obvious indication of their disconnect with reality.
The specifics in this Telegraph article pertain to the peninsula, a region noted for its volcanic activity. The estimable Dr. Steig used this fact in claiming the entire Antarctic continent was indeed becoming an inferno.
http://www.antarctica.gov.au/about-antarctica/environment/climate-change/sea-ice
So if you ignore the totally off topic insertion of Arctic sea ice measurement stuck in for no purpose at all… what you have is some decline in sea ice but only if you look in very a specific area. The expansion of sea ice is happening everywhere else.
The reporters for the Times then decided to ignore all the places that Antarctic sea ice was expanding and only mention the fact that it was declining in one specific area, and then also forget to mention anything about they way they had come to this conclusion, resulting in the following:
How to take the truth and twist it until you are back “on message” again.
It’s wonderful, the way they can tell these things, given that they had to recently double their estimates for emperor penguin populations as they weren’t even close to reality.
“We used the old method of counting the legs & dividing by four, however no-one informed us that penguins do not have four legs.”
“the Adélie population has dropped 65%”
Really?
Someone please tell the penguins:
“The Adelie penguin population in Antarctica’s Ross Sea has boomed to an estimated 30-year high, despite signs that climate change is driving population declines elsewhere on the continent
New Zealand researchers have been tracking the Ross Sea population of the penguin – an indicator species for climate change. The latest results, published this month in the US science journal PLOS ONE, show the population on Ross Island has steadily increased by about 6 per cent a year since 2001.
The researchers concluded the mean population between 1981 to 2012 was 855,625 breeding pairs. The current estimate of one million breeding pairs is up 16.9 per cent on the 30-year average.
Landcare Research scientist Dr Phil Lyver, who collaborated on the research with Antarctica New Zealand and others, said the growth of Ross Sea colonies in the past decade was the highest it had ever been.”

That’s exactly the point, depends on where you look. Less sea ice one area, more sea ice another area. Less penguins one area, more penguins around the Ross Sea.
The trick is to fail to explain the context to the person reading your article.
It does threaten them – it threatens to freeze them to death with the rest of us!
The anomalies have been above 1.4 million km2 since ~ April 10.
The steady average increase continues unabated since 2011, when the region of the S. Atlantic just “above” the Weddell Sea,
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/antarctica/antarctica.jpg
started to have persistent negative SST anomalies. I believe that region is “geographically favorable” to ice accumulation, similarly to region of northern Canada in the Arctic.
With favorable solar radiations (*low intensity*) the Weddell Sea region could be the kernel of even more cooling and records of ice extent.
Years ago, I thought it was a cute or witty association to describe the Global Warming Movement as a religion. But as time as gone on, I am becoming more persuaded that it is a good description. Religious adherents cling to their faith despite contrary logic and evidence.
The Emperor Penguin is threatened by expanding ice, not contracting ice. The male stays with the egg inland while the female goes for food in the sea. If there is expanded ice, it is a longer journey for the female, and fewer make it back to fed their chicks and mates. A shorter journey would help them.
I also see the refusal to accept evidence in the Global Warming Movement on the issue of crop production. There is ABSOLUTELY no doubt that increased CO2 increases crop production, but the Movement refuses to accept this reality and goes through great contortion to try to avoid it.
That’s because in their religion, CO2 is evil, humans are sinners for producing it, and plants would have to be evil for being fertilized by it, which they can’t accept because plants are sacrosanct.
The Church of CO2 is not a religion, but it clearly is a cult, the most dangerous one on the planet.
Interesting that Joe Bastardi is reporting that CFSv2 is projecting near normal ice extent in the arctic, based upon multi-year ice amounts and AMO historical patterns.
http://patriotpost.us/opinion/25340
Thanks for the link, great article of Joe B..
I agree with all that he said and I’d add only that the present low solar cycle is importantly affecting the cycles of ice extent and the AMO.
The “normal” evolution of the AMO would probably point for the point of flip in the middle of the 2020’s, but the low intensity of solar radiations could accelerate this process by many years.
The Global Warming scammers have just owned theirselves: http://goo.gl/nOQAOX
Sorry, I thought that the threatened penguin thing was an ad. 🙁

First the polar bears and now the penguins?!?
Recognizing we have barely managed to dodge several UN IPPC tipping points (thanks be to Gaia), as good stewards should do, our only remaining compassionate option is to relocate both the polar bears and penguins to an enclosed, confined, temp-controlled environment where they can frolic together free from the hazards of human interference. ///
The simple truth is that Polish Bears & Penguins are extremely delicious, & the enviro-wackos know it, & are trying to keep all the best food to themselves.

Fuck the PENGUINS they can be cloned and produced in poultry farm cheaper and better than littering Antarctica.
Are you sponsored by the Hydrocarbon Cartel to fools us that they ain’t global warming no mo and sea ice ain’t shrinking but expanding.
I would take you more seriously you posted some Landsat remote sensing image to fortify you Rhetoric.
