Government passed laws creating the National Parks and other open space which all of us can enjoy.
The Federal Government has done many great things for the US. Unfortunately, it has grown much too large and is now a malignancy, which like any cancer exists only to self-perpetuate. It needs to be scaled back drastically.

Children should be employed. I was. By my parents. Planting, weeding, picking, shucking, slicing and canning various garden crops raised from the earth .. and I received _no_ wages! But, I had room and board and eventually a basement from which I could operate ‘ham’ radios and listen to the world. So the effort paid off …
Been working since I was 10 years old, and learned much more than job skills. Progressives are child abusers.
We are now paying the costs and suffering the penalties for using government growth, the political process, to achieve those things and more.

Not to mention when they decide those areas will be wilderness or other protected areas where we are not allowed.
Just try taking a horse into a city park or federal park. Heck a nearby city has banned horses in parades because some idiotic cop saw a guy having a bit of trouble with his horse after a parade and responded by turning on his siren and flashers. The horse went crazy and killed his rider. (And these are the type of guys we now ‘trust’ with military weapons???)
Fifty years ago the country (We The People) was rich enough to pay for a cleaner environment. Big Government did not make America wealthy.Today the US is rapidly changing in a 3rd world country. If you are poor the environment is not your first priority.
Cancer – chemo or surgery.
Government – democratic change or revolution.
There is one more choice – starve the organism be it cancer or bloated government. Non compliance is the way to starve a bloated government.
Appreciate your point about the state the environment was in, back in the 60s. The problem was real back then,and those polluted waterways weren’t fixed by propaganda and money changing hands.Today’s “issues” are basically a scam.
Fifty years ago black Americans had a lower unemployment rate than white Americans. Government put an end to that. Now young black men and women have an unemployment rate approaching 50% with no end in sight, government did that. Gangs, drugs, crime, and prostitution are the only “jobs” that black youth can get. Government did that. Now Government wants to raise its “minimum wage” rate to outlaw hiring of even more inexperienced uneducated young men and women. Government is doing that.
Well, the democrats in the congress are spear-heading that effort; this will assure the democrat plantation many more ‘victims’ for which the democrats will be happy to provide ‘representation’ and offer many more, non-working ‘solutions’.
I know this does not sound rational, nor plausible in the first read, but, it *is* how it works out in the end …
Love this site and the humorous as well as factual perspective it brings to the psychopathic BS control agenda that is global cooling/global warming/climate change/whatever it is this week. But I strenuously disagree with the view that government intervention in any economy is sometimes “good.”

Like Steve, I alaso remember when the EPA was formed.
It was not needed.
All that was needed was the government/courts to actually ENFORCE the law of Criminal Trespass.
In the 40s and 50s that law had its teeth pulled because polution was “The Price of Progress” so corporations were allowed to polute the water, air and land even when it travelled beyond their property and sickened neighbors.
The chemical corporation I first worked for straight out of college was sued over an air polution issue by the chemical corporation next door, and WON. That is how the situation should have been handled from the very start.

The polution issue is the same as the Federal Reserve issue. The corporations got to cream off the profit and the citizens get stuck when the bill comes due to clean up the mess.
I started my son working in the business at age 6. Piece work pay. Today he has 2 advanced degrees in business and works for a large financial firm. Hard work pays.
From penury, slavery, oppression, and business by favor of the state came revolution.
Out of that revolution came a new method of government. Government by and for the people. And for many, many years the people and their government grow strong, moral, and wealthy. But slowly, over decades, the government grow faster than the peoples ability to control it. The rules that restrained the government were by-passed or ignored.
And the people change. The once hard-working, moral majority became borrowers, lazier, distracted, and less moral.
At each iteration of the democratic process the increasingly foolish electorate voted for, and empowered, a government that promise themselves the most. These governments became increasingly more paternalistic to the electorate. But these governments had to expanded their powers so to cover the cost of its promises, by borrowing and taxing; acquiring and controlling ever more power, and wealth from the people. And in doing so the electorate’s rights and responsibilities, property and wealth were removed to the state and its lenders. The electorate were happy with this arrangement until finally the awful truth became clear.
All things and everyone is controlled by, and for, the benefit of the state and its lenders.
Soon the cycle will restart with those who will seek freedom through revolution…
Do not forget that the Communists WANT revolution. That has been the goal from the get go.
