Having only been there twice, very briefly, in 30 years, I can say that it lines up with my impressions perfectly.
Actually Albuquerque has some pretty nice areas and is overall a fairly pleasant place to live.
I always had thought it was a nice pleasant place, mild climate, good place to retire. But what do I know?
If they think Albuquerque NM is bad they should see Detroit. (If Obama had a city it would be Detroit.)
The unemployment rate in Albuquerque is 6.40 percent (U.S. avg. is 8.60%)
Estimated median household income in 2011 for USA was ~ $49,434 t
Albuquerque:….$43,606
New Mexico:….$41,963
Estimated per capita income in 2011: $25,580

Estimated median household income in 2011:
Detroit ….$25,193
Michigan…..$45,981
Estimated per capita income in 2011: $13,965

We do have our wackos. We do have a police force that chooses to solve problems at the highest levels. We do have Idiot liberals in abundance. We also have a great conservative population. We are very diverse racially, for the most part we get along quite well. We have world class beer, food, and great access to amazing land of all kinds. It is really not so bad here. I know from studying this blog that Steve might feel the same way.
I agree with your assessment. My son lives in Albuquerque and I visit whenever I can. It’s a beautiful city with friendly people and wonderful heritage. I love the fact you can day-trip to Santa Fe, Tent Rocks, Chaco Canyon, or the Jemez mountains. Detroit is a third world country by comparison. I hope you get your police force under control soon.
