It Is The Stupid, Stupid

Alarmists can’t understand why skeptics want to see the planet destroyed.

Skeptics can’t understand why alarmists allow themselves to be useful idiots for unscrupulous politicians who have demonstrated repeatedly that no lie is too big, and that they are willing to destroy the reputation of science in order to push their agenda.

A clean, healthy environment depends on free people and abundant, cheap energy. Communist countries like the Soviet Union and China are/were a mess.

Today the Dem media outlet AP quotes “global warming experts” saying wildfires are getting worse due to climate change. But it’s below average again this year, even if none were arson by greentard ecoterrorism.
Fires feed on oxygen. If there’s more CO2 now, maybe that’s why fires are below average?
    http://www.nifc.gov/fireInfo/nfn.htm
And maybe people shouldn’t build homes in the woods out west? Ask our ancestors and natives why they didn’t do that.

    • You couldn’t start a fire in Colorado right now if your life depended on it.

      • Colorado Wellington says:

Yes. One of the coldest springs I remember. There is still snow on the north facing slopes and in the shaded parts of the foothills forest.

The fire danger can change, of course, very quickly. A cold, wet spring will result in taller grasses that will dry out and increase the fire hazard later, directly threatening structures. It won’t matter much if it’s in the mountains, foothills, the piedmont or on the plains. Grass fires typically move faster than pine forest fires and many houses destroyed recently were ignited by burning grass.

The tall grasses will also provide ladder fuel increasing the likelihood of crown fires in the forest. And counterintuitively, since the forests are now interspersed with grassy areas in sections that burned recently a “forest fire” may advance quicker through them and will be harder to catch and contain. On the positive side, under some conditions the new meadows may provide natural fire breaks to stop crown fires.

    • Colorado Wellington says:

Our pioneer ancestors did. Many of the native tribes were nomadic and did not build permanent homes. Some of the settled tribes built their villages in or near the woods (it also depends on what you call “out west” as that definition changed dramatically through our history). Those living in the the prairie and on the high plains understood well the lethality of prairie grass fires. They used them in warfare as well.

You are of course right about the nonsense of calling wildfires the result of man-made global warming. These people have no clue what they are talking about.

    • squid2112 says:

Ummm, Helllloooo…. Fires are not caused by heat and/or cold … they are caused by HUMANS!!! … better than 9 out of 10 of ALL forest and brush fires are caused by either careless or malicious HUMANS! … Temperature has NOTHING to do with it! … These fires don’t just spontaneously combust, something has to start them! .. 9 out of 10 times it is a human, 1 out of 10 times it is lightning. There is NOTHING “climate” related to fires .. period.

      • Send Al to the Pole says:

So they are Mann made, after all? Just not from CO2? Figures. We used to have Smokey on TV telling us this, but the Klimate Commies killed him off I guess.

        • squid2112 says:

Funny thing, it wasn’t but a couple of weeks ago that I saw a “Smokey The Bear” commercial, and low and behold, what did he say? 9 out of 10 forest fires are started by people. And sure enough, if you wonder out to the US Forest Service website, you can dig for a while and find the statistics. According to the US Forest Service, a full 93% of forest and brush fires are started by humans, with less than 7% being started by lightning strikes.

So, seems to me, that if you want to stop fires, then you should probably concentrate on stopping people from lighting them, and not try to change climate (something you can’t change anyway).

Are people really stupid enough to believe, that a 0.3C temperature difference in “global average temperature” is going to have ANY effect on forest and brush fires? … really? … I have a few things I would like to sell to these people.

        • squid2112 says:

BTW, just throwing this out, but I am betting that if one were to take arson statistics and terrorist activity rate statistics, and correlated those with US domestic fires, there would be an exact correlation. The majority of fires are set purposefully.

        • Truthseeker says:

In Australia in summer about 75% of bush fires start after 3:30pm in the afternoon … after school ends.

    • dcpetterson says:

The average temperature in the US has as much impact on wildfires in southern California as does the start date for the next season of “American Idol”. The local temperature in southern California has quite a lot more impact, and that is greatly affected by changes in the climate of southern California. Southern California is going through record drought conditions and extreme heat, coupled with increased winds and low humidity. That is what worsens wildfires in southern California, not things like the temperature last month in the Midwest.

The levels of CO2 in the air are more than sufficient to have a significant impact on climate (since it makes the atmosphere retain heat), while not being enough to smother fires (since there is still more than enough oxygen to sustain combustion).

You are correct that building homes in an area that is likely to get wildfires is a bad idea, but there are very few places on the planet that will be unaffected by changing global climate.

    • Morgan says:

True about not building fires in the woods, wrong about oxygen feeding fires and how lower oxygen levels and higher CO2 levels discourages fires. CO2 went up by 100 ppm and oxygen went down by the same amount. Oxygen was 200,000 ppm and went down to 199,900 ppm, so how does that make any difference?

      • squid2112 says:

You are suggesting that CO2 displaced O2, and only O2? .. Sorry, but the largest concentration of gas in our atmosphere is N2 (78.084%), not O2 (20.946%). So, more N2 was displaced than O2. What you are pointing out is even more absurd than you have described. At most, only 20ppm of O2 could have been displaced by 100ppm CO2.

        • Morgan says:

The O2 picks up a C and becomes CO2. Perhaps oxidation of carbon happens differently in Australia, but that’s what happens in New York.

      • squid2112 says:

Even more absurd are those concerned about CH4 (methane). Our atmosphere only contains 1.79ppmv of CH4. That’s less than 2 parts per million! .. and people are worried about increasing to 1.8ppmv? … Seriously? .. I am highly suspicious that we could even measure such a change.

    • Don’t hear em’ talking about the coldest Spring on Record… nor all the FREEZING temps in the USA this past winter…

They ONLY promote what furthers the Hoaxer agenda..

  2. Andy DC says:

Us skeptics are fat and rich from all the Koch brother and oil money we receive. That could be the only possible reason why we fight against “settled science” and want to destroy the planet.

    • Colorado Wellington says:

Speak for yourself. My wife says I am fat from beer and those greedy, evil brothers never bought me a pint.

    • Phil Jones says:

A recent Radio Show I was listening to had Koch Brothers listed at 52nd for political contributions… The top 10 were ALL Progressive groups like teachers unions, public worker unions, blue collar unions and SEIU….

…. YET all we hear from Progressives on Huff Po and Harry Reid is how influential and evil Koch is… 52nd is far from #1… Kock spent 18 million while the #1 Union spent some 79 million of our tax dollars on politics…

As with Global Warming… The numbers and hysteria from the Left doesn’t add up to Reality…

  3. gator69 says:

Odd. It’s the alarmists that get excited over predictions of doom, and it is the alarmists who ignore signs that we are not all going to die in a jet of blue steam. It seems to me that the alarmists would rather see the world destroyed, than lose the debate.

  4. bobmaginnis says:

I think the photo of the woman in smog is from China, where they don’t have an EPA forcing power plants to clean up their emissions. It would look like that here without the EPA. I remember my eyes watering from LA smog 50 years ago, but thankfully there were government emissions regulations enacted.

    • Gail Combs says:

the Photo is from China. WUWT had that or a similar photo when the oylmpics were to be held in China a few years ago.

    • R Shearer says:

In China, they have the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which is run by progressives. They regulate industry, which is owned by progressives.

“Communists Sue Democratic Party For Stealing Platform
          Red Square
          4/12/2010, 5:27 pm

In a surprise move, the CPUSA (Communist Party USA) has announced a lawsuit against the Democratic Party and its leadership for the alleged theft of intellectual property. The plaintiffs claim that the entire so-called “new” Democratic agenda is, in fact, the product of a decades-long, painstaking campaign by CPUSA theorists, agitators, and underground subversive cells – which makes it the intellectual property of the Communist Party USA, protected by American copyright laws. “They stole our entire platform, rebranded it ‘progressive’, and claimed it as their own,” declared a CPUSA spokesperson at a press conference in San Francisco. “And we communists say, not so fast! Not in this country anyway, where we still have property rights and the rule of law, thank God! Actually, let me rephrase that…”
          ~
The Communist Party representative explained that government ownership of the auto and financial industries, redistribution of wealth, and free rationed healthcare have always been among the glorious CPUSA objectives: “We held on to these goals through all the difficult years of factional infighting, purges, denunciations, and heroic espionage on behalf of the Soviet intelligence services.”

The self-identified Progressives I know do the conflating themselves.

        • gator69 says:

It would not be funny if there were not some truth to it. Communists are the same the world over, the Chinese nationalize industries just the way progressives here are doing. And don’t forget that your party is often pointing to the Chinese model as the way forward.

“Everybody’s watching what’s going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics. Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are all vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business … you’re starting to think, “Beijing looks like a pretty good option.” Why aren’t we doing the same thing?”
          -Barack Hussein Obama

          Why do you hate liberty?

        • Colorado Wellington says:

Progressive icon Thomas Friedman thus conflated:

“One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century.”

Yes. the Progressives now prefer Mao to Stalin. It’s a pragmatic thing for them. His party turned out to be more durable.

        • Morgan says:

I agree with bobmaginnis, I was born in LA and lived there from 1955 to 1960. The only thing I remember is my eyes burning all the time from smog, and how much better it was in 1960 when my father got a job for I’ve Been Moved and helped invent computers in Poughkeepsie.

My father is the reason \ is called backslash and / is called slash. The term “forward slash” is wrong. He also coined the term modem (it means modulate/demodulate). My father was head of publications for IBM for 30 years, he standardized everything. His department came up with bit, byte, and gulp, which he approved. Gulp never caught on. He’s the reason . is called dot instead of period. eMail was a term used by IBM many years before anybody else, they sent all their inter-office memos by eMail in the 60’s. The one thing my father wanted that they didn’t go along with was * became star, my father wanted asterisk.

        • Gail Combs says:

The only difference is Communists are all about the violent over throw of the target government while the Fabian/Progressives are all about the gradual take over of the target government.

The end result is a totalitarian government in either case. (For our own good of course just ask them.) Actually ‘Progressives’ are just Willi’s “Willing Accomplices” preparing the battlefield for the ‘Revolution’

With Obummer’s EPA in the process of wiping out ~50% of the US electrical generating capacity, Roberts 1916 ‘Urban Wars’ might just be more prophecy than fiction. No wonder the DHS has stock piled enough Ammo for 20 years of hot war inside the USA and the EPA has shut down the lead smelters!

The goal of the KGB’s influence operation was to make Americans feel that their country was inherently bad. The KGB utilized Willing Accomplices to spread the message that America was an evil, racist, imperialist, foreigner-hating war-monger and that Communism was a benign, noble experiment designed to rid the world of corruption, oppression and injustice.

Babette Gross, wife of KGB agent Willi Muenzenberg, told Stephen Koch, that Muenzenberg taught his operators that “You do not endorse Stalin. You do not call yourself a Communist. You do not declare your love for the regime. You do not call on people to support the Soviets. Ever. Under any circumstances.” And then Gross, in her ninth decade, more than fifty years after her beloved Willi’s body turned up rotting in a French forest, revealed to Koch the smoking gun of the Soviet covert influence payload:

          * You claim to be an independent-minded idealist.
          * You don’t really understand politics, but you think the little guy is getting a lousy break.
          * You believe in open-mindedness.
          * You are shocked, frightened by what is going on right here in our own country.
          * You’re frightened by the racism, by the oppression of the workingman.
          * You think the Russians are trying a great human experiment, and you hope it works.
          * You believe in peace.
          * You yearn for international understanding.
          * You hate fascism.
          * You think the capitalist system is corrupt.

This payload exactly matches today’s PC-Progressive message. The message that Soviet covert operators propagated through American Willing Accomplices. The Willing Accomplices, wittingly or unwittingly, spread the anti-American message. And this message bloomed and grew into the pernicious set of taboos and strictures that we call PC today.

It is important to note that Soviet espionage simply planted the seeds of PC. The seedlings did not need continued communist cultivation. The Soviets’ American Willing Accomplices nurtured the anti-American message in universities, newsrooms, and in Hollywood….

From the book Willing Accomplices: How KGB Covert Influence Agents Created Political Correctness and Destroyed America by CIA Counter-terrorism Operations Expert Kent Clizbe

So if you are a Progressive you are a “Willing Accomplice” spreading Stalin and Lenin’s KGB Covert Influence Payload.

And just to make you feel real good about supporting the destruction of the USA:

          Tom West described Stalin’s outlook:

Only one man, the wisest and strongest of all, can be entrusted with the task of building socialism. And this man must not flinch from inflicting mass killings, deliberate famines, and torture involving the suffering and deaths of many millions of people. The Wise Man must employ whatever means he deems necessary to root out the millions of enemies of the people so that he can lead men to perpetual peace, happiness, and total communization.

The beautiful theories of Marx, Engels, and Lenin were now become flesh—the flesh was Josef Stalin. The requirement for communist leaders to force, coerce, bully, murder, maim, torture, kill, starve, imprison, shoot, destroy, exploit, and otherwise dehumanize its subjects, all for the greater common good, was demonstrated for all the world to see during the reign of Stalin….

Dr. R.J. Rummel calls it Democide: DEATH BY GOVERNMENT I bolded the socialist/communist regimes.

    • B says:

For decades government didn’t do its basic job with regard to property rights. It sided with polluters telling those who suffered to pound sand. When people got upset enough government responded by expanding its size and power with the EPA that says who can pollute how much. This became a valuable tool of large corporations against smaller competitors and a weapon for those in government to use against anyone they felt like.

China is polluted because it is a communist country where the major polluters are owned/protected by the government to an extreme degree. The US government is a huge polluter and the US military is probably the greatest consumer of hydrocarbon fuel on the planet, but do the environmentalist groups go after it? Rarely if at all, because mostly environmentalism has been co-opted by a certain political agenda.
