John Holdren – The Perfect 10

Last week, the White House predicted 10 degrees warming in the US by 2100 – based on top line research from John Holdren.

In 1997, Holdren also predicted ten degrees warming

Since he made that forecast in 1997, Earth has warmed 0.0 degrees, meaning we only have ten degrees left to go. This is more in line with Holdren’s 1971 forecast for a new ice age.

In order to become the top scientist in the land, you have to demonstrate conclusively that you are both completely incompetent and a total flake.

    How’s the snow going today?

At least if feels like April here in New York! Finally, something resembling spring here.

Yeah, and getting all your fearful forecasts wrong helps also….

    • Dave N says:

The only thing that assures them (I’m including Ehrlich, here) recognition and reward is that their forecasts are scary, and said forecasts are intended to “save the Earth”; being spectacularly wrong is irrelevant.

    • B says:

No, to be a top scientist in the land you have to demonstrate that you will do science which supports what those with political power want. You have to show you can switch gears and do what it takes to keep up with a political agenda.

It’s much easier if we view the world as it was hundreds or even thousands of years ago. It’s all just semantics to use words like scientist, human nature hasn’t changed. Human societies have a ruling class and that ruling class needs to give the people reason to obey them and make sacrifices. Between the ruling class and the people goes the intellectual class. The intellectual class does the brain work to convince the people that what the ruling class is doing is good.

In ancient times the intellectual class consisted largely of priests. In modern times we have scientists and economists.

  3. Latitude says:

    that’s amazing…..
in 1971 urbanization and deforestation and larger deserts made it colder….
    now they make it warmer

    it really is climate change

  4. Andy Oz says:

While Holdren is 100% certain, the BOM is running a book on the odds of an El Niño occurring. Considering the budget cuts coming their way, they need to develop new sources of income and Betting is Australia’s national pastime. Meanwhile Tim Flannery is also short of cash since being sacked as climate commissioner, and is doing a TV special on China to make a few quid. What a trooper.

Also from the linked document and quoting Holdren’s book from 1970s Global ecology : readings toward a rational strategy for man / edited by John P. Holdren, Paul R. Ehrlich

If man survives the comparatively short-term threat of making the planet too cold, there is every indication he is quite capable of making it too warm not long thereafter. For the remaining major means of interference with the global heat balance is the release of energy from fossil and nuclear fuels. As pointed out previously, all this energy is ultimately degraded to heat. What are today scattered local effects of its disposition will in time, with the continued growth of population and energy consumption, give way to global warming. The present rate of increase in energy use, if continued, will bring us in about a century to the point where our heat input could have drastic global consequences. Again, the exact form such consequences might take is unknown; the melting of the icecaps with a concomitant 150 foot increase in seas level might be one of them.

Does this give some reason for politicians pushing the eco-lunies to windmill and solar panel the globe?

    • jimash1 says:

I notice that the heating mentioned in that article is from sources of heat, not CO2.
I guess they hadn’t thought if it yet.
All they knew was that they had half figured out some climate oscillations and needed a way to capitalize upon that to the validation of their paranoid fantasies and desires,.

      150 Feet ! So ambitious !

      • tom0mason says:

I am not one to dismiss their distressed logic that quickly. As Eric says they are desparate to deindustrialize us, So if CO2 gets kicked out then the human/industrial generated heat is in reserve.
        Watch-out for the change.

        • jimash1 says:

          I’m not dismissing.
“As Eric says they are desparate to deindustrialize us”
As I said, their paranoid fears and desires. These are psychotic control freaks.
” So if CO2 gets kicked out then the human/industrial generated heat is in reserve.
          Watch-out for the change.”
I guess they can change that just like they turned around on the solar influence, when cycle 24 didn’t cooperate.
          Bastards.

        • tom0mason says:

          True
          🙂

    • Justa Joe says:

Libtards don’t flinch when claiming AGW has been settled science for +100 years. It seems that Svante Arrhenius & CO2 weren’t in the forefront of Holdren’s & Ehrlich’s thinking.

  7. Dave N says:

    Ehrlich co-edited. Beyond hilarious.

  8. Eric Simpson says:

John Holdren, Obama’s current Science Czar, has been quick to give judgement on “scientific” matters climate, especially when his view coincides with his leftist pipe dreams of de-industrializing the world United States. So it was that he wouldn’t of even bothered to blabber about a coming ice age in the 1970s if he also didn’t include with that his prescription for saving us from an icy doom: de-industrialization.

No surprise that 1973 Holdren said this: “A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States… [we] must design a stable, low-consumption economy.” No surprise also that a few years later when he was then talking about global warming instead of an ice age, again, the prescription to save us from a hot doomsday: de-deindustrilaization!

    Some other things Holdren said:
“It has been concluded [by Holdren] that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution.” -John Holdren
“A program of sterilizing women.. despite the relatively greater difficulty of the operation than vasectomy, might be [required]… [or, a sterilization] capsule could be implanted at puberty and might be removable, with official permission [from the ecoelites].” -John Holdren
What an absolute unadulterated nutcase. And to think this is our President’s current Science Czar. Un. Effin. Believable.

    • Andy Oz says:

How many children and grand children does Holdren have and when is he gonna sterilise them all? Otherwise he is a class A hypocrit.

      • Gail Combs says:

According to Wiki, Holdren and his wife, biologist Cheryl E. Holdren, has two children and five grandchildren.

He is also trained in aeronautics, astronautics and plasma physics and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1965 and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1970.

Holdren’s writing way outside of his training with books like Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment, Human Ecology, Earth and the Human Future, Building Global Security Through Cooperation and Conversion of Military R&D.

Aren’t Warmist always telling us chemists or geologists or physicists or statisticians or other scientists are not climate scientists so their comments on CAGW don’t count?

        goose meet gander

    • tom0mason says:

From your quotes and the passage I quote above, surely this make him one of the most dangerous people on the planet!
He’s infected, beyond treatment, by the Malthusian virus which unlike normal illness kills all while it tries to retains the host infector in luxury.

    • Eric Simpson says:

No no. He is one of the superior few. He and his extended clan wouldn’t have to worry about being sterilized or forcibly aborted, because their own lineage needs to be expanded and propagated. And he himself wouldn’t have to worry about de-industrialization either, as he could still have his Atherton estate and Gore-like trappings, it’s everyone else that would have to fall in line and kowtow and live in dilapidated shacks or huts and take the beat up old electro-bus into the run down, Detroit-like city, for a bowl of rice olay.

      • Eric Simpson says:

Btw, this was in reply to Andy’s comment above. And lol Tom, and good point Gail. Yeah, he’s a Stanford guy, hence Atherton, the most expensive zip code in the country.

    • Eric Simpson says:

Also, I had the idea that this Twilight Zone full episode is kind of interesting in light of Holdren’s back and forth between warming of an ice age and then global warming:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0G-Ke0FG5s

      • _Jim says:

So, the idea here is to ‘ride out’ the Holdrens of the present administration and – and – we just have to ride out the ‘fever’ of the present administration as if we had contracted a nasty ‘bug’ …

      • Eric Simpson says:

From Rod Serling at the end of the above Twilight Zone:

“The poles of fear. The extremes of how the earth might conceivably be doomed. A minor exercise in the care and feeding of a nightmare. Respectfully submitted by all the thermometer watchers in the Twilight Zone.” -Rod Serling

      • Bill says:

Classic. Very cool. Had not seen this episode.

    • B says:

It’s very believable. The eugenicists never went away. Sterilize the unfit, guide human evolution.

  9. Shazaam says:

Meh. It’s just the government parasites “scientists” “effect”.

More money flows to those who fail.Since they claim that their failures are due to an insufficient budget.

So, since failure is rewarded, you get much more of it. Nothing fails like a government funded project.

    • _Jim says:

Blame it on, are you ready for this? – there is ‘no blame’ per se to apportion out. No performance clause. Or non-conforming or non-performing clause w/penalties, staged payments for completion of phases or aspects of the contract …

      • Shazaam says:

        Indeed….

Whereas should I fail to deliver on such a scale, I would not get paid. (not would I expect to be paid)

  10. tom0mason says:

I wonder what John Holdren makes of this –
    http://daedalearth.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/image-299.png

Lots of warming in the UK eh.

  11. Adam Gallon says:

I note the “Mere 1% increase in low cloud cover would decrease temperatures by 0.8C”
I wonder what a mere 1% decrease would do?
I’ll bet that such a small alteration either way, can’t be measured.

    • tom0mason says:

“…small alteration either way, can’t be measured.”
But that’s not the point – it can, to a 94.978% confidence, be statistically assessed and valued to within one hundred thousandth of a degree, with errors of just +/- 0.7°C.

  12. Justa Joe says:

For the purposes of left wing or elitist “science” “policy” it doesn’t matter what the problem is as long as the peons are the culprits and the solution is more govt control over the peons.
