There Is No Question …. That Michael Mann Lied To Congress

At the House Science Committee hearing today, Mikey Fraudster Mann said :

there is no question the two main ice sheets are losing mass

I fixed it for him :

there is no question that Mann lied repeatedly during his testimony

Antarctica is gaining ice.

Greenland has gained a record amount of ice this winter.

Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Mass Budget: DMI

Maybe Mikey defrosted his freezer and was referring to that?

If anyone wants to watch the testimony ….

    Mikie at 1:11 on ice.
Also lies at 50 saying many independent studies reaffirmed his fudged tree ring hockey stick “research.”

  2. Mann did not come across as a very credible witness.

He said he had not called Judith Curry a “denier” … he kept arguing this and eventually the chair had it written into the record that he’d called her a “Climate Science denier”. But when he was asked for his own views, he totally refused to say anything other than “the 97% (bogus figure) says).

That might have been a reasonable stance if he were the head of some great institution trying to represent the views of detailed and difficult internal discussions – but Mann holds no such position and he was being asked as a “scientist” for his own views. Committee members may be unsure of the scientific merits of his arguments but they can be damned sure that he was pretending to have a position he does not in putting himself forward as if he spoke for some body called “science”.

And when you blatantly lie about name calling in your own testimony when it’s clear you have intentionally brought a libel case merely to silence criticism. And when it’s clear you’re a pretty nasty piece of work, constantly attacking the other reasonable scientists around you for daring to … it’s not even daring to have different views … it’s daring to say they don’t know what the science is.

For me, the most courageous witness was Judith Curry who repeatedly said “we don’t know”. Not only does that take courage to stand up against the ilk of Mann – but it also takes especial courage for an academic to admit that they don’t have the answer – because that is not something academics like to do.

  3. CheshireRed says:

He was incredibly arrogant and spent most of his time attacking the other 3 scientists giving testimony. Meanwhile they stuck very closely to offering actual evidence, like when Christy showed that alarmist computer models have failed.

It was textbook climate debate stuff; alarmist ad hom attacks v realists observable evidence. Nothing new there then.

  4. Edmonton Al says:

Mikey should be required to provide evidence of his claims.
What purpose does it serve to allow him a platform to spew insults?
These “hearings” are, for the most part, a waste of time IMO.
    Put up or shut up.

  5. Sunsettommy says:

This link shows a few science papers supporting this headline:

    Antarctica Has Been Gaining Ice,
    Lowering Sea Level For Centuries

  6. Jim Hunt says:

I’m sure everybody here will be interested in my own critical review of Mike Mann’s testimony?

And at the risk of (repeating myself)^n

    SMB != ice mass

    • RAH says:

Where’s the water Jim? You can post all the GRACE BS about mass balance you want, while ignoring that that other databases not only disagree but in fact show the opposite.

But it is all academic until accelerated SLR by DIRECT MEASURMENT becomes evident globally, what GRACE measurements of Ice mass reveal is meaningless as a practical matter. So where is the globally ACCELERATED directly measured sea level rise that must result from the melting of well over 3,000 Gt of ice that GRACE claims to have occurred?

    • Gator says:

Genocide Jim, nobody here gives a ray’s ass what you “think”. Trolls who value ice over human life are not worth investigating.

At the risk of repeating myself, what would you do differently if alarmists were starving your family to death?

    • AndyG55 says:

Jimbo. at the risk of repeating myself.

here is the graph of Greenland total ice mass since 1900.

Too difficult for you isn’t it , little yellow-back.

    • AndyG55 says:

Then to put it in a longer context here is the area for last 10,000 years.

As you can clearly see, the extent is near its highest in 8,000 years.

But you will remain WILFULLY IGNORANT, won’t you Jimbo,

    • AndyG55 says:

GRACE has been shown to be massively INACCURATE over the Antarctic,

and it cannot help but be MASSIVELY INACCURATE over Greenland.

      Do you know why, Jimbo?

or will you continue to remain WILFULLY IGNORANT.

  7. Andy DC says:

Petulent, arrogent cry baby. He has no right to censor the views of other highly respected scientists or call them names. Sorry, Mikey, your side lost the election and elections have consequences. You and your phony hockey stick are finished.

  8. RAH says:

Some here seem to think that committee hearing was really about science. Please drop that notion. That hearing was about politics just as an IPCC report is not about science but politics. This is not a criticism, it’s just fact. AGW and now “Climate Change” is merely a battlefield in the ever present war to determine the political/social/economic fate of peoples and nations and that hearing was a skirmish in the battle. Though science, and those that present it have an important supporting role, the ultimate winner of neither the battle nor the war will be determined by science in the end but by many other factors.

  9. R. de Haan says:

As we’ve said many times, human induced Global Warming is a dead horse.
Watch our sun, the growth of the ice caps, we´re down ramping right into a new ice age.
The Interglacial will end within the next 50 years????????

  10. Tim Erickson says:

With the scientists that testified the only thing I could think of is

“One of these things is not like the other”.
