Winter Comes Early To Greenland – They Gain 46% More Ice Than Normal

Winter has arrived several weeks early in Greenland, and they have gained a huge amount of excess ice.

Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Mass Budget: DMI

Normally Greenland’s surface gains about 375 billion tons of ice per year, but this year it has gained almost 550 billion tons of ice. Temperatures in the center of the ice sheet never got much above -10C this summer, and scientists there are buried in deep snow.

Meanwhile, the criminals known as climate scientists and journalists continue to lie about Greenland.

That simply can’t be!!! The glaciers would instantly calf to prevent accumulation and growth of the ice sheet SMB. Just ask Griff and her supporting cast! The glaciers instantly respond to new snow and calf don’t even wait the century or centuries it takes most of it to become firn (packed ice crystals) nor the additional century or more of accumulation on top that compresses the firn into ice.

      it’s magic…….

      come on RAH,

You know that glaciers are a “river” of ice, hence flow quickly into the sea !! ;-)

It’s strange but it’s not magic. It’s science ®. The phenomenon is known to climate scientists as Mysterious Quantum Entanglement of Glacier Head and Foot.

Einstein predicted this weird effect and called it “spooky action at a distance.”

Here is a proposed experiment to verify the existence of the phenomenon:

Al Gore arrives by helicopter in the accumulation area of the glacier head, causes a severe snow storm and gets immediately buried in snow accumulation.

Instantly and concurrently, Mark Serreze—previously embedded in ice at the glacier terminus—starts calving and screaming.

If Mark Serreze is unavailable, the experimenters use an imbedded cow (fetchez la vache).

Scientific credit: We have adapted the framework of a similar 20111 experiment.

Two Diamonds Linked by Strange Quantum Entanglement.

Ms Griff can provide further details.

Rats! Looks as if the golf course is closed today…………..

    Mr Heller
One of my discussion group has declared that the “coming ice age” scare of the late 70s has been debunked and only a fringe few participated. Do you happen to have a list of peer reviewed papers or climate scientists that were in that ragged fringe? My memory is that it was pretty wide spread and found its way into high school science and college classes.

This is slightly off-topic and my comments may be erased again , like nearly all of them in the recent two weeks , when i presented some unorthodox ideas …….
Grain-prices dipped last weeks upon news of a bumper-drop in russia . The acreage of wheat was probably a record , but the extra humidity and the cooler temperaturen were not factored in . When everywhere in the northern and southern hemispheres crops were reduced by off-the-normal climatic circumstances , then all-of-a-sudden russia should have a bumper-crop ? Highly unlikely and given their notorious falsifying of statistics it could well be the other way around . Suppose you needed to buy an extra quantity of grain in the near future , what would be your interest ? To drive the price down today !
One thing you can never accuse Mr Putin of is acting stupid himself . In half a year we shall know reality and this may be too late for many of us

It looks like the arctic is so ice free that the Crystal Serenity now has two ice breakers. Hard to tell for sure but the second boat sure looks like another Canuck ice breaker.

So far the swine are picking their way around and through the ice but I hope they get stopped soon.

  6. Taphonomic says:

Actually it is more than 46% of normal. Earlier this year, DMI reworked their graphs because the massive snowfalls this year were making them look bad. Average for the year end used to show ~300MT and maximum ~550MT. The old graphs can be seen courtesy of the wayback machine.

    • Pethefin says:

Maybe another convenient revision of the coastal mask, which has happened with their other inconvenient products, before abandoning them completely :-)
Seriously, it is time for the DMI to show some scientific integrity and either remove the alarmist display of year 2011-12 in their accumulated surface mass balance diagram, or to also show the year 2016-17. Any bets whether that will happen?

      • Colorado Wellington says:

It’s an impossible thing to do. If they showed scientific integrity they’d stop being professional climate scientists. That’s not gonna work.

        • Pethefin says:

This time we do need to give kudos to the DMI for making the right choice and keeping both 2011-12 and 2016-17 in the new diagram. A bit of fresh air in the dungeons of climate science?
However, looking at the embarrassing adventures of a certain Ruth (with Tony’s analysis on 1+ meter sea ice), we can guess that there is a debate going on within the DMI about such a sign of integrity.

  7. Griff says:

    They’ve gained 40% more than average…

    In precipitation/snow…

We don’t yet know what the ice mass loss from calving is – still likely that even with the snow gain the ice sheet lost mass.

and it would be worth asking: ‘why is Greenland seeing all that snowfall? what is happening in terms of storms up there?’

    • Gerald Machnee says:

      **hey’ve gained 40% more than average…

      In precipitation/snow…**

Ice does not fall from the sky, it forms from precipitation and snow, but you know that already, you are the ignorant one not us.

    • AndyG55 says:

“still likely that even with the snow gain the ice sheet lost mass.”
