Arctic sea ice volume melt rates have dropped sharply to the lowest level since June 1, so I have had to push my ice-free Arctic forecast out to December 15 at 6:19 pm.
Ice volume is fifth highest for the date, and likely to move into the third position in the next couple of days. Odds are 2018 will finish the summer second highest after 2004.
This is cutting it a little close for Democratic Party prophet, James Hansen – who only has until December 31 to fulfill his ice-free Arctic prophesy.
