You Can’t Fool Mother Nature

People building mega-data centers in the desert seem to imagine they can defy the laws of thermodynamics.

  1. You can double the energy requirements because it is unlikely that the overall conversion (fuel burned to electricity output) efficiency would be better than 20 %, especially if the cold end of the cycle is raised by the local atmosphere heating. Didn’t you know the laws of thermodynamics were repealed by both Houses to render the global warming theory credible?

Good points Tony. I just want to add that…. admittedly I do not understand the need for all these so-called data centers. as for Cheyenne Wyoming warming I think we could say that Central Minnesota is not warming and only 800 miles away. the experts keep forecasting that we’re going to hit mid to upper 90s and the best we can most often do is low 90s. (forecast are always skewed high and they’re wrong) Granted we are having a warmer than average summer. a few more weeks of Summer and we’re back into the icebox here in South Central Minnesota. I believe I mentioned this before that where I live we’re seeing an apartment building boom. sadly I think it’s because few young people can afford mortgages on new nice homes.

It always seems like whenthe Midwest has a hot summer, we have a cold summer. I think we’ve had one 100 degree day this year, and maybe four or five 90 degree days. My tomatoes are about a month behind schedule. I don’t know what is going on in Wyoming, but it isn’t do that here, maybe it is some shift in weather that occurs periodically that causing the problem. As far as the data centers go, I can’t figure it out. I have begun to use the Google AI a lot, only to find that it is mindless, and often horribily incorrect. I asked it about myself, and it regurgitated my Facebook page. I had to ask it specifically about other things that I knew existed on the web and it found them, when asked specifically, but it framed a story that lived my life backward.
I am interested in what is going on with Tony’s AI. Maybe one day he can do a quick report that doesn’t compromise their business plan just to let us die hards know what is going on. Trump’s support of the data centers is typical Trump. He is an optimist and figures the scientists and engineers will work out the kinks in the road to progress. He is right, but a lot of damage can occur in that process. I’m not too sure what to say, other than I am certain that the other side, the communists are a worse outcome.

Here in the Socialist Republic of Australia our mindless Prime Minister and his equally ignorant Energy Minister want to see lots of data centres, and think they can be powered by green energy i.e. windmills and solar panels.
In a dry, hot country like Australia (two-thirds of the country receives less than ten inches of rainfall annually), the only solution would be to build stand-alone centres away from populated areas on the coast.
As our inland water sources are close to exhausted by current demand, a desalination plant would be needed for cooling water with a dedicated nuclear power station adjacent.
Tapping into the national grid, already depleted by attempts at achieving Net Zero, would fall far short of requirements.
As our Socialist/Green governments won’t allow nuclear powerplants, the whole idea is a ludicrous pipe dream. Sadly, that doesn’t mean much national treasure won’t be wasted in futile attempts to achieve it.

it’s about 7:00 a.m. in central Minnesota. I just watched the Cyber guy on Fox News Fox and Friends. he explained to all of us how AI is a good thing (has to compete with China… where people don’t have personal toilets half the time) and it won’t drive up your electric bill. what? Hello? not one thing that he said makes any sense to me so please all you smarter people than me, please explain it to me. heads up if it’s just about better porn don’t even bother
