The Greenland ice sheet gained 518 billion tons of new ice over the past year, which was 40% above the 1981-2020 average. It has been above average in six out of the last nine years.
So daily mean is an average, therefore it has gotten above freezing during the day and then below freezing at night. At least day/night by the clock as the sun never sets in the summer up there.
And how do we reconcile Roy Spencer’s global average anomaly figures from satellite data with this massive cooling of the Arctic and Greenland regions? I personally have never bought Spencer’s charts or data, but let’s suppose his data is correct for a global anomaly compared to past 30 years:
Does this mean that the heat transport mechanisms from the tropics to the poles has slowed down, making polar regions cooler and the rest warmer? Or has the polar region increased it’s radiation to space making it cooler while transport from tropics remains unchanged? Or am I being too simplistic?

The north pole has six months of night from September to March, followed by six months of daylight. There is no night there during summer.
You seem to have missed what I wrote. I qualified with “At least day/night by the clock as the sun never sets in the summer up there.”
So when the clock says night, the sun is very low in the sky and during clock daytime the sun is much higher in the sky, making high and low temps during a day.
My point is a mean is an average, indicating values above and below this mean occur.
it’s not just Greenland that has gained billions of tons of ice and snow over the past year. in the previous thread I posted a link that showed the same thing has happened in Antarctica – a huge increase in snow and ice over the past year it must be climate change. lol. you can’t get through a half hour perusing the internet without coming across a new story that states that the climate is changing but our local weather records show there has been no change, no doubt due to the fact that I live in an area that has a very small Urban heat island. please somebody ask Al Gore where are all the hurricanes. sure has been a quiet summer in the hot hot hot HOT Atlantic Ocean.
There must be some correlation between the Artic staying colder (not “venting” cold air south?) and the extreme heat in the Northern Hemisphere this year. Could global warming simply be a tile game of moving the cool and warm around to different parts of the global while the overall balance is relatively the same? If in early 200o we all had know: AI Gore. Of course, it was bull shit.
exactly conrad. when the wind is from the southwest it’s going to be warm. when the wind is from the Northwest it’s going to be cool. where I live we had our 9th warmest summer on record. next weekend it’s supposed to be in the 60s for highs and I’m looking forward to it

As long as there is ice melting it can’t go over 0ºC if there is no invasion of warm air from the south.
That was the problem with Europe this year , a constant invasion of hot African air.
How does the sea level monitor look ? It’s a great correlation if sea level rise has stalled or reversed, or at least slowed as a result of Greenland ice accumulation.
