The most common misconception regarding Antarctic sea ice is that sea ice is increasing because it’s cooling around Antarctica. Goddard commits this error on several occasions. The reality is the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica has shown strong warming over the same period that sea ice has been increasing.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Does this person (Cook) even see how stupid he sounds? His statement is an oxymoron
What would you expect from a self-employed cartoonist turned climate activist?
What do you expect from a moron?
He is a CO2moron, not an O2moron. 🙂
+1
That is gold.
Notice he says the area around Antarctica is warming faster than the global trend?
Well, it the “global trend” is flat…
Al Gore’s hair dryer heats it up great and is not the EU model which was forced to be weaker to save the polar bears. American hair dryers are much stronger, hotter, than EU ones. This is why the water is freezing faster and faster!
You see, hot makes ice, didn’t you notice when you used your microwave?
Yeps. I’m tired of clearing the snowstorm from my magnetron box whenever I reheat my coffee..
it = if
The latest excuse on the Antarctic sea ice is that the glaciers are calving faster than usual every summer, making fresh water. Also, the warming ocean is melting the bottoms of the ice shelves faster in the summer, again making fresh water, and all this fresh water near the continent freezes in the winter. Here’s how to shut them up real fast…tell them that once the sea ice forms a donut around Antarctica, it’s impossible for more of this fresh summer meltwater near the continent to get around the donut to add to the growing sea ice on the north side of the donut in the winter. They are saying the continental ice melts in the summer and the fresh water floats away, jumps over the donut, and freezes onto the north side of it, up to 2000 miles from the continent, 6 months later. It is probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard since Edith Bunker said Abe Lincoln was Jewish.
I’m sorry. Donut is not a scientific sounding term. Let’s call it a torus and add to the jibboleth.
Yes, the Tardis. The Doctor is responsible for all the ice there.
The Doctor? Doctor Who?
This is “strong warming” in the Southern Oceans?

More ice-lower SST. Less ice-higher SST.
First, Anarctica is cold. Vostok’s average daily temperature is -55.1 C; that’s 55.1 degrees Celsius BELOW ZERO. On Average. Many days are colder than the average.
http://www.coolantarctica.com/Antarctica%20fact%20file/antarctica%20environment/climate_graph/vostok_south_pole_mcmurdo.htm
Secondly, the Southern Ocean sea surface temperature has been cooling since 1988.

Why does his chart finish in 2004, and where are the error bars for the thermometers which can measure to 0.5 C?
Actually if you squint at the undulations of Cook’s graphs, sea ice goes up when temp comes down and vice versa. A better graph would have been sea ice versus temp. All that the CO2moron is saying that since a line through temp is up and a line through sea ice is up so temp causes sea ice. He can take his line and shove them.
I guess if someone asked him why sea-ice is at record levels despite the oceans warming (as he claims), he’d consign it to the spam bin.
Wot a doofus!
Mr Cook also knows the rise in global sea levels are contrained by the sea ice in the warm Southern Ocean.
I am of course using the Cook method of attributing a complete falsehood to someone and stating it as fact. This and the previous comment are both half truths.
Let’s all make ice in our ovens. 350ºF should make ice real fast. And after that, the broiler! Sciencey, isn’t it.
Wait, what?
Warmer ocean currents create more ice? How? Well I guess you might ask warmer than what? But how warmer causes cooler still evades my understanding.
Seems like the warmunists like to talk about earth’s great oceans in vague, non-physical terms.
Storing the missing heat
Warming oceans creating record ice
Dangerously rising sea-levels without the danger
Vague. Ominous. Non-intuitive. And best of all, little or no data. Argo or not, Google Nyquist sampling rate. Here’s a nice start:
http://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/tmve/wiki100k/docs/Nyquist_rate.html
We have only a vague general sense what is going on in the oceans. Record Antarctic ice? Simple really, earth is probably going through one of her typical cooling cycles. CO2 be damned.
Going through a cooling cycle….why?
Why not. We just don’t know.
No one knows. Not Cook, not the warmunists, not the luke warmunists, no one predicted today’s climate, with any reference to an actual physical model – good guesses by crackpots don’t count. No one.
Name one if I missed something.
Please no weirdos, you know who they are.
I’d really like to know. Straighten me out.
One last thing. Cook is a clown and a moron. There. I said it.
Bill Gray predicted and explained in in 1996
The theory is that the warmer ocean is melting the glacial ice terminal, causing relatively less salty water for thousands of kilometers all around Antarctica, which frees easier due to it being less salty. (it is completely unsubstantiated BS, contrary to actual evidence)
Clowns like Cook never think far enough ahead to determine where this “warmer is colder” “theory” leads. By 2100, will the 1.4 degree warmer “boiling” planet be frozen over? What is the turning point where warming will actually lead to …uh… heat?
Southern Ocean temperatures have been falling sharply since 1981.

Francis Bacons Four Idols are at work here. This is absolute nonscience.

Watts Up With That’s ignorance regarding Antarctic sea ice
Posted on 9 March 2010 by John Cook
Bob Tisdale wrote about this on WUWT Friday, Oct 17th, when he reported that “The KNMI Climate Explorer has added a number of … new [ARGO] datasets … under the heading of Ocean mean temperature” and that they show:
He also points out that the data shows the North Atlantic warming a bit (+0.03 deg C/decade). William Gray points out at ~47:00 min in his 2009 talk (Climate Change Driven by the Oceans — Not Humans) at a Doctors for Disaster Preparedness conference that when the SST is warmer in the North Atlantic, and the general pressure in the mid-Atlantic is lower, the thermo-haleine circulation is stronger, and we get global cooling. Gray also rips apart the Cook’s logic, but I don’t understand it enough to do it justice by repeating it.
Oh….here’s a link to Gray’s talk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZVE8JHxRAc
