In 1986, the New York Times predicted the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of the US would lose between 100 and 1,000 feet of shoreline by 2026.
“MANY scientists are so sure that the sea level will rise visibly in the coming decades that they are advising planners to adopt new strategies now. A predicted rise in sea level of one foot within the next 30 to 40 years will drive much of the Atlantic and Gulf shoreline inward by a hundred feet and some of it by more than a thousand feet, according to marine geologists.”
SIGNIFIGANT RISE IN SEA LEVEL NOW SEEMS CERTAIN – The New York Times
Finally a correct prediction.
The gulf shoreline was driven so much inwards that the gulf of Mexico became the gulf of America.
Thank God for the lethargy of government. If they had gotten right to it, just think how much money would have been wasted, moving everything back further from the shoreline.
Have the dire forecasts changed? Not really. all they have really done is move the timeline. I sure hope Trump cuts off the money pipeline that feeds this malarkey
