The Early Spring In New England

An ecologist and mother brings the overwhelming problem of global warming to a personal level, with a mix of memoir and science

“The human heart is the most sensitive instrument, and that is why Amy Seidl’s marvelous book is so important, a new kind of contribution to the rapidly growing library on global warming.”—Bill McKibben, from the foreword

Robert Frost wrote about nature and rural life in New England, and Norman Rockwell painted classic scenes of farmhouses and American traditional life, images reproduced as symbolizing an idealized history born of New England sights. But New England, a region whose culture is rooted in its four distinct seasons, is changing along with its climate.

I have the good fortune of being in New England on the first day of meteorological spring. This is what it looks like. See the daffodils pushing up through the ice?

Oh, how I yearn for an early Spring here in Iowa. It usually doesn’t come in earnest until after May 1.

Looks like New England was waiting for an early spring last year, too:

We need more books like this published that are so easy to discredit! She must be spending to much time with her Game Boy SIM Planet! By admitting to be an Ecologist se shows she lives in a fantasy world! However the Dogwood blossoms are a nice touch but I must wait for their appearance this spring as it is expected at its normal time. I do have Daffodils and other greens pocking out of the ground with a promise of Spring color some day soon!

…..an idiot and her brood awaken to the realization they were halucinating….

I wonder whether Amy Seidl is actually in New England right now to see what a crock she has written. It remind you “Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past.” When are these people going to realise that the warming trend is over and things have flipped? I hate to use the word denier.
