El Nino To The Rescue?

The US is experiencing the worst springtime drought on record

Conditions have worsened during April

Contiguous U.S. | U.S. Drought Monitor

Temperatures at Imperial, Nebraska have averaged 10F above the post 1895 average, and have been far above normal almost every day.

Northern Colorado is completely barren.  Normally this spot would be very green by late April.

Snowpack in the west is at an historic low.

Wolf Creek Pass is frequently the snowiest place in Colorado, and snowpack peaks there normally during April. In 1980 I skied there in July, but this year there is no snow.

Streamflow in much of the US is at a record low.

At the current rate of decline, Lake Powell would be empty in a little over three years. This can’t actually happen, but is an interesting reference point.

Water is being withdrawn from Lake Powell about 1.5 times faster that it is being replenished.

Lake Powell has lost nine feet of water since the end of January.

But there is about to be a change in the weather, with lots of rain forecast in some of the drought areas.

This may be due to the rapid increase in Nino 3.4 sea surface temperatures as El Nino forms.

Lake Powell filled up during the 1983 El Nino, and made a significant recovery during the 2023 El Nino

The old mantra was cold and dry, warm and moist. Maybe not global warming? How could so many clone climatologists get it wrong?

  2. Bob G says:

spring postponed! currently snowing in nine states.

Thankfully in the past week and a half we have had 4 inches of rain where I live in central Texas.
Unfortunately lots of data centers are planned in the area. I think that no new data centers should receive water to open while drought conditions exist.

The weather is just like Trump, averts a crisis at the last minute.

    • Bob G says:

And tonight …now last night, another crisis … a crisis apparently aimed at Trump…narrowly averted in Washington DC. Reports say the shooter is a high school science teacher. no doubt a devotee of fake science who was going to save the world from those evil Republican climate deniers. on the bright side, it does cement the need for a ballroom attached to the White House, which would provide much better security. FYI last night’s shooting of a secret service agent (who survived) by a high school science teacher happened at the Washington DC Hilton hotel, same place that Ronald Reagan was shot some 46 years ago.

IWhy were the Americans able to built the Empire State Building for 45 mio but now need 300 mio for a ballroom?(must be some very big balls there to justify the pricetag )

        • Bob G says:

Thats fast! in the 1800s they built a railroad all the way across the country in a few years and now it takes a lifetime to build a rail line from San Francisco to Los Angeles. probably took 20 years just to get the permits. lol. weather update!!! now snowing in 12 States!!!

By Inflating the fiat money supply. In other words America not paying its debt.

      • arn says:

Well, here is something that’s faster.
Lindsay Gayham instantly popped out of nowhere joining the totally not orchestrated ballroom war cry
and said that the formerly privately financed 300 mio Ballroom should now be financed by the taxpayer a cost 400 mio.

Now that kind of inflation is very fast.

What my favorite gay warmongerer forgot to say was,
that this would not make the annual correspondence dinner
any safer as the Ballroom as result of its design only can seat the number of concubines and wifes King Solomon had.
It is impossible to cramp 2600 people into it.

the 1:30 a.m. precipitation update. now raining or snowing in about 43 States out of 50, (57 states says Obama)…maybe the pattern has changed? but all new news is not good news. a story is circulating that Corpus Christi Texas is in danger of running out of fresh water for its citizens and that’s definitely a symptom of climate change. apparently what’s not a symptom of climate change is the fact that Corpus Christi years ago had a population of 50,000 and now it’s 500,000. I’ve never claimed to be a mathematical genius but if the population has exploded…. that might be causing a strain on the water supply …is that really unexpected? is that climate change? in other dry places in the world that are on the edge of an ocean they build desalination plants. Israel for one of them. might not be a bad idea for Corpus Christi.

I thought I read that snow is now something from the past? currently now snowing in 12 States.

  7. Bob G says:

Upper Midwest report! in South Central Minnesota we were really dry a couple days ago and then it rained and it rained and it rained…. and that rain soaked in, very little runoff in my neighborhood. now we’re having a second day of rain and it’s not soaking in the ground … because the ground is saturated. roughly 2 in of precipitation in the last 2 days. drought is over here …for now. changing subjects a little …here’s an interesting website run by the Minnesota department of natural resources. (natural resources does not include the unexploited mother lode of Gold silver and copper in northeastern Minnesota, called the Duluth complex… that’s considered unnatural…lol). this website tracks the day that Minnesota lakes lose their ice cover every spring. FYI everything in the northern half of the state is no different from their long-term average. to find the info just Google… Minnesota lake ice out.
