He writes “We do have coverage of the poles through satellite data which encompasses 98% of the globe and that data is in full agreement with GISS.”
Good luck with that pinkman.
1. Satellite data has a 7.5 degree hole at both poles.
2. UAH reported a (negative) -0.17 anomaly for the Arctic in February, while GISS reported +4 :
This also repeats an absurdity:
Measurement method #1 yields these ten data points: (gridded temperatures, say)
0,1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10 -> Average 5.0
Method #2 yields:
0,0,0,0,0,10,10,10,10,10 -> Average 5.0
The comparisons should be done before averaging. There’s a solid reason the least-squares approach is normally used instead of the simplistic approach of just averaging the data and then comparing the results.
Spelling this out:
Take the grid cell temperature for Seattle’s gridcell according to GISS, subtract same according to UAH, and then square it before repeating for every other gridcell. Doing comparisons based on just the ‘final number’ is beyond daft, particularly as one of the approaches is fundamentally ‘anomaly based’ and actively uses recalibration of the offset to adjust this precise “average”.
Alan:
GISS has no measurements for the Arctic Ocean! They use the preferred SWAG method to arrive at the final answer. Seattle’s Gridded cell according to GISS is probably not even related to real temperature measurements unless it is a statistical fluke. Anyway Seattle would be subject to UHI contamination as well as Runway corruption! We might have a general idea of the temperature in Seattle to within 5C plus of minus giving a ten degree range of possible actual temperature! Texas Sharpshooter comes to mind!
GISS does indeed show a much higher polar anomaly. But to compare them quantitatively, they need to be using the same temporal period as a baseline. I assume GISS doesn’t use the last 30 yrs like UAH?
Also, can one get spatially resolved data for HADCRUT?
-Scott
HadCRUT doesn’t fabricate Arctic temperatures like GISS.
Dang, forgot about the double link thingy again. Could you?
You’re right, GISS doesn’t use the same baseline. Nor, do I believe sat. data should be compared to surface temps. But remember, it was pinkman that did. But, if we’re into doing such, it seems HadCrut is in complete agreement with RSS.

Before anyone asks, the RSS graph used data taken directly from the RSS site and slapped on an Excel spread sheet. Graphed and trended.
And, no, I’m not starting my own blog…..was just tired of some mundane data entry today.
Well pinkman, how are you going to get out of this blaring embarrassment? I really, really like it that global warmers that defend James Hansen can be this far off from being right.
Keep it up. You’re helping the ‘skeptics’! 🙂
Its amazing how anti-scientific those people can be. What? They hate real science so much they can critically think for themselves anymore? Maybe he can get with ‘toon boy that visited earlier and he can explain it to him……lol
I wish these guys and gals would confer with me first before they make these “special honors” categories. I could explain some complicated things like orbits, line of sight, and whatnots.
Is critical thinking so passe that even the concept is no longer taught? And they wonder why people want to shut down the Dept. of Ed.
They should shut down Dept. of Ed. and Dept. of Energy—
lol, well it would save on a lot of confusion. As well as money. Maybe its the initials that make them totally and wholly ineffective?
hehe thanks for the post!
however i was just quoting some warmists (some of those claim to be climate scientists) i’ve been arguing for months with.
since they refuse to post in here i decided to repost the stuff they’ve been telling me about you and your posts to see your response to their criticism. so no offense from my side – just curiosity 🙂
Well, good on you, pink. Since I’ve never met an alarmist site that I can freely post on, would you do me a favor and pass this back to them?
That perhaps they should quit pretending to be guardians of science when they couldn’t recognize that an agreement of conditions is necessary before an agreement of data can be employed.
Thanks much,
James
well if you have a youtube account you are welcome to do so:

Steven, i’m not aware with your blog’s rules regarding posting links, so if you aren’t ok with thid i wouldn’t mind you deleting my post.
Pink, this is a pretty free-flowing blog. Steve doesn’t do much moderating.
I should have added that you should stick around or, at least come back from time to time. Diverse thoughts enlighten and hone.
lol, that’s a hoot! Wow. Steve you really got people bothered!
Thanks for the link Pink!
Ahhhahaha, ahhhahaha, ROFLMAO … sorry, trying to contain myself. .. I just ventured over to that site and did a bit of reading. Can’t really comment, can only laugh….
Thx suyts and Squidly,
