Earth To Jim, Glaciers Have Been Retreating For Nearly 20,000 Years

The vast majority of glacial retreat occurred before humans started burning coal. One  might expect the world’s greatest climatologist to have a grasp of basic science before he talks to the press.

“Tibet’s glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate,” said James Hansen, coauthor of the study and director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York City. “Black soot is probably responsible for as much as half of the glacial melt, and greenhouse gases are responsible for the rest.”

Wasn’t the melting of Tibetan glaciers found to be much slower than what was first stated by warmists? Wasn’t that whole scam recently repudiated? Now it’s raising its ugly head again?

I think it was Hansen who in a paper said that Tibet’s mean temperature had hardly gone up in decades yet its glaciers were in retreat. Ahhhh! Here it is.

      2003 – Hansen et al.
The soot albedo effect operates in concert with regional warming in most of the world, hindering empirical distinction of climate and soot contributions. However, there has been little warming in China, including Tibet, over the past 120 years (Fig. 3), yet glaciers there are retreating rapidly (37).

It seems like the warming is skipping over various places, namely the places where humans live.

You know… I kind of agree with the statement that black soot is responsible for the half of the melting (for I’ve seen it… the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park in Alberta Canada is a good example of the havoc soot causes to glaciers) but he just had to go for a wondrous-fantastial-magical-mad-mad-mad CO2 comment, didn’t he?
