Leading Polar Researcher : Arctic To Be Ice Free By 2010 – First Time Since September 997,990 BC

Good job we’ve got that continuous 1-million year satellite record of ice coverage in the Arctic Ocean to refer to, otherwise somebody might might accuse scientists of making wild-ass claims that they have no way of substantiating.
If they did have a million satellite record you’d just want 2 million if you didn’t like what they were saying 😉
Andy
If they were claiming the Arctic hadn’t been ice-free in Summer for 2 million years?
Darned right, I would!
While, I find all of the claims incredulous, how many people believe this would be a bad thing? More importantly, why?
I guess 2011,12,13 and 14 will have ice. Looking good for this year to have some, slow spring again up there.
Andy
Yep, nailed it.
As long as he had stipulations like a doubling of CO2, or changed his prediction later, then he was right all along and criticizing his inaccurate predictions is just wrong. You have to scare people when you are trying to save the world. That just makes him a climate scientist.
This prediction took only 3 years to falsify with a 5 year margin of error. Does this not become academically embarrassing after awhile or is righteousness now the precursor to honesty?
It is a resume enhancer that gains you a bunch of groupies that blindly defend your every ridiculous statement. Oh, and the grant money. Don’t forget the grant money.
Has the melt season even started? Looking at the temps in central and NE Canada, there are some doubts. Well below 0 (F) along the shores of Hudson Bay and it’s almost May! Some god-forsaken place in Nunavet was -32 (F) yesterday. They are 50 degrees colder than they were in January! No longer a very good poster child for the warmist movement.
WHY would a summer ice-free Arctic be a catastrophe? Is something bad supposed to happen?
