Kennedy used his family influence to get into the war quickly. The Allies were in a campaign of island hopping since securing Guadalcanal in a bloody battle in early 1943. Kennedy was assigned PT-109 upon arriving at Tulagi. By August 1943, the Allies had captured Rendova and moved PT boat operations there. The US Army was driving the Japanese out of Munda airfield at New Georgia by August. All of the islands around Blackett Strait were still held by the Japanese.

At dusk on August 1, 1943, eighteen Japanese bombers conducted a raid on the PT base in Rendova harbor. One bomb struck two boats at dock, PTs 117 and 164, destroying both and killing two crewmen. After nightfall, Kennedy’s PT-109 was sent north on a mission through Ferguson Passage to Blackett Strait, as one of 15 boats sent to intercept the Tokyo Express.[5]

  1. Latitude says:

    reminds me of John Kerry………..

  2. Jim Cole says:

That would be the haughty John Kerry who, let us recall, served in Vit Namm.

The part about sneaking into Cambodia — uh — not so much.

Let’s hope that Jerry Corsi’s success with the Swift Boat Vets can be duplicated in drumming BHO out of the 2012 campaign with “Where’s the Birth Certificate?”

Now that there’s a paper record establishing his father as British/Kenyan national BHO Sr, how does that square with the requirement for the US President to be a “natural born citizen”? — that is, free of foreign influences.

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    • Daniel Packman says:

Bush senior, Kerry and Kennedy actually served in active duty during wartime. Bush junior and Obama not. McCain yes. All having nothing to do with policy and the presidency.
