This is supposed to be the time of year when skiers and snowboarders are lured to baseball stadiums and golf courses, and seasonal Colorado resort employees are long gone. But with snow still falling well past its closing day in mid-April, Aspen Mountain is reopening 136 acres at the top for Memorial Day weekend, using salaried staff.
Climate models predicted this :
Study: Climate change may force skiers uphill
Tuesday, December 16, 2008DENVER — A study of two Rocky Mountain ski resorts says climate change will mean shorter seasons and less snow on lower slopes.
The study by two Colorado researchers says Aspen Mountain in Colorado and Park City in Utah will see dramatic changes even with a reduction in carbon emissions, which fuel climate change.
I don’t see a problem here. As soon as these guys admit how wrong they were we can move on… Doh.
When does official summertime start again?
“University of Colorado-Boulder geography professor Mark Williams said Monday”
Geography? His looks hint that he is very familiar with the geography of the local bars. The CO2 emissions he is probably referring to is due to belching after downing a gallon or two of local lager.
Warming is soooooo bad some ski areas are considering staying open until the 4th of July.
In 2008, warmcold and drywet had not been discovered or peer reviewed. Climate models are MUCH MUCH more advanced today than in 2008!
Slight correction – the snow cover did not force them – the EVIL capitalists did. The snow covered allowed the EVIL capitalists to profit from mother nature!
The ski industry is doomed……. to have to work later in the season.
