  1. A K Haart says:

Astounding. Maybe this science stuff will catch on.

  2. suyts says:

lol…..google translate may need some refining…….but the article was clear enough……..

It turns out, there was a LIA, and a MWP. We know the MWP was warmer than it was today because of the agriculture and shipping. (Consider the water craft of the time.) We also see evidence of human culture thriving in warm and dying in cold.

Is there really anymore that needs discussed when regarding climate change? No wonder the loons refuse to give up their hockey stick in spite of what reality says.

This little bit of seemingly insignificant piece of human history entirely destroys the posit of global warming alarmism.

  3. PhilJourdan says:

    “They failed to adapt.”

Ya think so? Damn lazy vikings not wanting to farm permafrost!

  4. omnologos says:

don’t stop looking. methinks it was the plague, not just the cold. they disappeared like that, could have escaped the cold to Vinland if needed.

    • Mike Davis says:

Cold and lack of food allows the plague to spread. The lack of nutrition during the LIA and the cold were the leading contributors to the spread of the plague throughout the world.

  5. Jim Cole says:

And the geological evidence has been there, plain as day, for decades as well.

When today’s retreating glaciers expose old forests and human habitations, that’s pretty good evidence that past conditions were warmer than today for extended periods of time.

Fossil forests (dead trees) exist above modern treeline in many locales, also evidence of prior sustained warmth exceeding today

Shorelines from 5000-6000 years ago (Holocene Optimum) are preserved above the modern shorelines (evidence of higher sea levels)

This kind of evidence is not limited to North America and northern Europe. It’s worldwide. See CO2science.org for lots of documentation of the Medieval Warm Period

  6. Dave N says:

This would confuse the crap out of the average reader; their brain has been conditioned to think that climate change means it gets hotter.

  7. TinyCO2 says:

Have you noticed how often they use past climate change events to warn about global warming? Which is odd because the climate change events involved were always global cooling.

  8. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

For most, climate change, a relatively new phenomenon……… It has long been a mystery why the Norse society founded by Vikings in 985 back in Greenland died out, but now researchers point thus on climate change.

This is something new to her. But the truth is it has always been known why the Vikings colonized in Greenland and why they left Greenland.

This girl needs to get out more often.

  9. Mike Davis says:

Maybe it is a rehash of known information blown up to look like a new discovery. This type of research needs to see the light of day to counter that by those who want to claim current conditions are somehow abnormal.
WHY Do some want to make any claims based on the past 150 years or even the last 30 years which is even more ridiculous.
Maybe they want to lead into the Vikings causing the LIA by raising cattle on Greenland.
Of course reading this after reading about a couple of other papers that were about “Research” in the same region. I did not respond to the others! (I self Snipped on that thread)

  10. Lawrie Ayres says:

Australia’s Chief Scientist, Ian Chubb, wouldn’t want to hear about this sort of research. He wants to shut up anybody not obeying the commandments of Hansen and Jones. Strange for our premier ????? scientist to prevent open discussion. Of course his job depends on toeing the government line. Waste of space and oxygen thief.

    • P.J. says:

Funny, Al Gore said something in “An Inconvenient Truth” that sums up Chubb’s situation nicely: “It’s difficult to get a man to understand something if his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”
