UN’s Dr. Evil

Earth Summit chairman Maurice Strong left no doubt about where to place blame for global problems, stating in the conference report: “It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class…involving high meat intake, consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, ownership of motor vehicles, golf courses, small electric appliances, home and work place air-conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable…A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmentally damaging consumption patterns.”

Addressing the Summit audience, Strong also suggested a primary remedy, whereby: We may get to the point where the only way of saving the world will be for industrialized civilization to collapse.”

So Mr. Strong will lead the way by giving away his riches to the needy, getting a job, living in a modest, lower middle class house, and flying commercial when—he can afford it?

    • DEEBEE says:

These hypocrites! Why do they need to fly. They can use their riches to set up video feeds and talk to their flock virtually.

My father lived over 60 years without ever flying, owning a car or using many of the modern day conveniences. His father lived into his 80s without electricity or running water in his house. My mother left my father when I was five for a better life and took her four children with her.
If these people want to see changes in the lifestyles of others they should be the examples for others to follow. There are many places around the world where they can chose the level of lifestyle they think is sustainable and they can invite others to observe their living conditions. Travel is a luxury. The necessities are food, clothing, and shelter.

    • P.J. says:

Those who are the richest, and usually the loudest (Gore, Strong, James Cameron, Ted Turner, Prince Charles, etc) all agree that we have to live with less, but they continue to refuse to practice what they preach. All are equal, but some are more equal.

Mr Strong. One of the most dangerous men on the planet. Forget Ghaddafi.

  4. Andy WeissDC says:

Without air conditioning, Arizona and Florida would become depopulated overnight.

    • P.J. says:

I would guess much of Texas and Nevada would too.

      • Grumpy Grampy ;) says:

I did not have a refrigeration unit on my place of residence until the 80s. My company vehicle did not have “Air” until the early 90s. My family moved to Southern Nevada in 1953 and I left in 2006.
I had evaporative cooling but that became less reliable with the increased population or I just “Wimped out”.

    • Beano says:

By that logic there would be no one living in tropic countries – such as Indonesia – only 220 odd million people

    • slp says:

We did not always have air conditioning in Florida and yet somehow survived; thrived even. Personally I would never do without one of man’s finest inventions though.

  5. Andy WeissDC says:

Also, golf is a satanic country club game played by rich, evil, capitalist Republicans.

    • Grumpy Grampy ;) says:

In my experience I found the opposite to be true and Democrats made up the majority of country club members. I found Democrats make up the upper and lower society groups with Republicans taking the middle position for the most part.

These fat cats need to destroy the economy due to the otherwise inevitable appearance in the middle class marketthis coming decade of toxic needle carrying yet quiet miniature GPS and stereo 3D remote piloted “toy” helicopters to be known as Ill Wind Wildcats, after a blowhard’s anti-technology manifesto is published in the LA Times, under duress, in full, in the Mayan end of years stardate 2012.
