Hansen : Clueless About Drought For Three Decades

Hansen forecast US drought for the 1990s, which turned out to be the most drought-free decade on record.

Excellent! I’ve just done a post on how floods aren’t increasing in frequencies nor severity. So, the weather is getting worse, except for floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and droughts.

Riiight… Your planet sounds terrific. Or… could it be that you’ve neglected to look into the geographical distribution of precipitation? You do know that flood and drought events are closely correlated, right? You do know that precipitation is tending to move inland and to higher altitudes? You do know the difference between latent and sensible heat? You are aware of M. Kravcik’s 20+ years of data on these effects? You do know that aquifer extraction rate in many areas comfortably exceeds recharge rate?

Or is it that, as an ostrich, you’ll actually be very happy in a desert?

    • No doubt you are aware that the ten worst floods in history all occurred below 350 ppm CO2.

Aquifer extraction rate has nothing to do with global warming.

      • feucht says:

Of course extraction rate has nothing (well nearly nothing, anyway) to do with any supposed global warming. The point was about aquifer extraction rate exceeding aquifer recharge. I take it you see no issue with this?

      • I think “feucht” is trying to say that aquifer extraction rate is closely correlated to droughts & floods. I can’t wait to read the peer-reviewed paper that states that.

      • Hansen is talking about drought caused by global warming. I have an issue with off-topic straw man arguments.

“I think “feucht” is trying to say that aquifer extraction rate is closely correlated to droughts & floods.”

Do you indeed. You’re considerably less than half-right. Lets say somewhere around 15%. That’s usually regarded as a fail.

Aquifer extraction exceeding recharge rate will inevitably lead to local water scarcity. Which may become acute. Another name for acute water scarcity is ‘drought’. Granted, some of this stuff is really hard to comprehend. But not this part – it’s actually pretty simple.

“I have an issue with off-topic straw man arguments.”

          Good for you. Deal.

Lol, said the clueless alarmist….. http://itia.ntua.gr/getfile/1128/2/documents/2011EGU_DailyDischargeMaxima_Pres.pdf

You guys get all of these whacked out ideas in your head and just run with your delusional madness without ever bothering to look at reality. You need to spend more time here and check out Steve”s drought posts.
