The entire Pacific coast from Mexico to Alaska is suffering from lack of water. In San Francisco there has been no rainfall whatever since July 1. This autumn is the driest in the history of California, which goes back to 1849. Electric power is so short in Seattle and Vancouver that street lighting may be discontinued. Forest fires are raging in southern Oregon and northern California.”
