I thought Defoe was fine, but will he ever get more chances ?n a game, for whatever reason Reading were poor. We should have had a hatful, and Bale,s was a miskick. One swallow etc etc. Defoe ‘could’ have been a flattrack bully, someth?ng he’s excellent at.

I have never understood why anyone would employ Defoe. He needs a hundred chances to get one goal. Today was his lucky day. Why do teams like spurs employ a failed manager when the one they have is doing the best they have had for years?

    • He has scored half of spurs goals this season.

We all love a cherry-picked statistic on minimal data! Don’t get me wrong, he’s a Yiddo etc, has a kick like a mule, and there are few recent Spurs players you’d prefer playing the Lineker role inside the box for ground croses from Bale and Lennon and through sliders now from Dembele and Sigurdsson – BUT, taken over the last few years, his link play and ball retention hasn’t been up with Adebayor, certainly not Berba, even Keane when he was playing with Berba. And don’t get me started on Steve Archibald. Defoe’s a nearly great.

BUT again, he may flourish if played as out and out striker with Bale, Lennon, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Dempsey, Tommy H, behind him. If given a run, and some confidence. Especially against lesser teams. Like Reading. But he got no change from any of the equally lowly teams in the first three games, it’s a worry.

I’m so nostalgic about Berba, why didn’t we buy him back, cheap cheap cheap.
