When Grover Cleveland was president, the US averaged more than three hurricane strikes per year. Under Barack Obama, hurricane frequency is down to about one fourth of that number.
Chronological List of All Hurricanes
Despite the fact that Obama has experienced the lowest hurricane frequency of any president, he says that hurricanes are becoming more common – and that anyone who disagrees with him is evil.
Thank you for the normalized data. Looks like Obama single-handedly saved the U.S. from hurricanes.
And all 3 hurricanes were Cat. 1s (or less than 1).
Of course this isn’t ALL hurricanes or you’d have a different graph.
The number of landfalling hurricanes (or even hurricanes total) doesn’t matter. The total energy content is what matters, along ALL basins. Five minimal hurricane landfalls don’t equal the energy output of an Andrew or Katrina.
But then again you being an expert in meteorology (owning a doctorate in meteorology and all) you should know this. Wait, you’re not an expert in meteorology or a climate science yet are considered an ‘expert’ or something?
Wow.
Did anyone ever tell you that you are moron?
“What difference at this time does it make?”
No correlation, let alone causation, of hurricane frequency or total energy with exponentially-rising CO2 levels:

“…Wait, you’re not an expert in meteorology or a climate science yet are considered an ‘expert’ or something?…”
Well, Bill McKibbin is sure considered an “expert” (and he does not have a degree in either meteorology or “climate sciences”).
He started a whole organization based on a single number, using a paper written in 2008 by an ex-NASA scientist (and that number was reached about 26 years ago).
Since then, Kyoto came and went, China has passed the US as the world’s largest CO2 emitter, and Hansen “retired”.
And we’re STILL above 350ppm.
Wow alright..
Show me an equatorial hurricane of Venus, which has a HUGE “total energy content” in comparison.
No? Apparently only at the poles, but obviously not due to “total energy content”. Look it up here:

Storms on Mars? Of course, even though there’s almost no “total energy” there.
I suspect it’s more the DIFFERENCE in energy and PRESSURE content that creates a hurricane. It’s also the DIFFERENCE in HUMIDITY and TEMPERATURE that creates storms.
Your argument from authority is a sign that you’re no smarter than an 8 year old PRETENDING to be someone NOT watching porn in mummy’s basement. Rather than faithfully parrot what you read from sites and media that continue to get the actual science wrong, educate self please and discontinue the pretend “science”.
More heat – higher difference in temperatures, which means higher winds. Steve should know better as he lives near chinook country.
Duh.
Also, I love how Steve calls me a ‘moron’ but doesn’t bother to say how I could possibly be wrong.
You are a moron. The heating has been in the Arctic, not the tropics. This reduces the difference in temperature. Read up on polar amplification.
More heat does not equal higher differences in temperatures. Many of your brethren believe the first signs of warming will be higher lows. Less divergent, not more. But then, rational thought was never a prereq for climate kooks.
The “reality” is that global temperatures have been constant for 17 years or so while CO2 has risen consistently. There is no correlation between global temperature and CO2. Reality? Your theory is dead.
“Of course this isn’t ALL hurricanes or you’d have a different graph”
Weather Satellites weren’t nearly as effective in Grover Clevelands day as they are now.
