1979 Shock News : Sea Level To Rise 25 Feet

“For example, one could launch boats from the steps of the US Capitol,” — Stephen Schneider 1979-01-08 in a report to be submitted for publication in the journal “Science”.
Stuck on Stupid.
Did Stephen Schneider get his degree from a Weeties packet?
Has the guy published anything since 1979?
Chicken Little has much more credibility because something did indeed hit him in the head.
Schneider and Chen must have had a few too many puffs on the bongo before coming up with this gem.
Why is it that the ‘other researchers’ who ‘doubt’ the seriousness did not get as much ink? Well, at least they were not yet labeled ‘deniers’.

“To capture the public imagination,
we have to offer up some scary scenarios,
make simplified dramatic statements
and little mention of any doubts one might have.
Each of us has to decide the right balance
between being effective,
and being honest.” – Stephen Schneider
We’ll never know if he thought he was being “effective” or “honest” when he wrote this:
“It is found that even an increase by a factor of 8 in the amount of CO2, which is highly unlikely in the next several thousand years, will produce an increase in the surface temperature of less than 2 deg. K.”
