The missing heat has disappeared from the land and the ocean surface, and has mysteriously dived to great depths in the ocean where only Kevin Trenberth and his apostles can locate it.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

Talking of deleted records – I was trying to find the evidence that Sandy came ashore in New Jersey as a hurricane. A figure in an NHC document showed only one place on the eastern tip of Long Island with a hurricane speed wind (it was 65kts) – all the rest had less, including NJ where it came ashore. When I tried to get data from NCDC, many of the stations I downloaded had gaps at the critical time (afternoon/evening 29 Oct). None of the stations with uninterrupted records had wind speeds anywhere near hurricane force.
Strange?
There is a reason for that. If a hurricane came ashore then the insurance company’s compensation to home owners along the shoreline could be reduced by about 20% because people were dumb enough to build houses in vulnerable areas. (Those same people fought the Corp of Engineers about building sand dunes to protect their homes because they thought it would spoil the view,) Roger Pielke Jr. had a number of posts last fall and over the winter on the pressure applied to the NHC to insure that Sandy did not get classified as a hurricane as it came ashore so that insurance companies would be on the hook for the full insured loss.
Sean, what you say does sound very logical considering the rampant dishonesty among politicians and the citizens that elect them, not to mention the corrupt AGW pseudo-scientists, and I have suspected it myself.
But what do you think was done here? In other words, were true hurricane wind speeds not recorded and/or records altered? I am just wondering how they can tactically go about this.
When Irene came ashore we couldn’t find any hurricane wind speeds either. So now I have to wonder if a trick was played there also.
