  1. Billy Liar says:

You have to wonder what’s causing the melting in Lancaster Sound (between Baffin Island and Devon Island). Subterranean heat?

  2. Scott says:

Maybe there is a current between the two bodies of water which makes the ice thinner.

  3. Billy Liar says:

I suppose it could be a case of the albedo effect: a stress crack opens up at the western end and the warmed water flowing west to east gradually melts out the Sound.

    One to watch – http://mainstreamlastfirst.com/
4-man row across the NW passage. Starts Jul 1st.

    • Andy Oz says:

They’re gonna need motorised ski mobiles to drag their rowboats across the ice in July. Perhaps they should wait till September like all the Warm-Earthers are doing. Apparently the moons align then and the Great Pumpkin appears ……..or something.

      • Otter says:

Are you sure they are smart enough to wait? Every time I hear about these jokers, its ‘freezing’ this, and ‘going backwards’ that, and ‘froze to death’ in the ‘fast-warming’ Arctic…

  5. Bloke down the pub says:

    Not much going on here.
