I agree that’s what they think. It’s the Nazi “big lie” theory in action. Problem is I think it’s actually having the opposite effect. I think it’s turning people away. I think most people would be willing to believe in the basics of global warming, but don’t believe the doomsday scenerios. Doomsday has become the new normal of the alarmists. So much so, that it’s obvious they are lying. It’s one thing to be wrong, it’s another to be a liar. People will accept someone who is wrong, but lie to them and they’ll never trust you again.
These people grossly overestimate how much people are willing to accept bullshit just because someone with a PhD is peddling it.

They were about two days away from a serious wall of sea ice to the east according to the Canadian ice maps but maybe there is more ice around where they are now since we know these maps miss or ignore a lot of the sea ice when it isn’t in large, solid pack ice configuration.

It’s obviously a strategy: pretend that it’s still 2012, 2013 sucks.

Thew hardness and thickness of the ice is about to get a real test, as a 970mb low is forming right where the summer gale smashed up so much ice last year. If it doesn’t smash up this year, Mother Nature is giving us a real hint.

How does the location and temperatures for this storm approaching compare to last year and the location and thickness of ice where this one will hit. I know last year’s came much earlier. Just wondering if this one will bring high temp.’s or smash thin ice or will it hit fairly thick ice with temp.’s from the storm not all that high?
I confess my less-than-perfect knowledge, concerning the subjects you are curious about. There is more ice in place than there was at this time last year, but is it thicker? Obviously it is thicker than it was, in places where the ice simply didn’t exist last year. However where ice existed both years I cannot say, primarily because the Navy map which shows ice-thickness can’t show the micro-hair slenderness of a pressure ridge. Such ridges would be more slender than the broken capillaries on an old man’s face. However, just as a baby’s face is smoother than than an old man’s face, even though your vision is too fuzzy to see the difference, so-called “baby ice” is thinner and weaker than ice containing pressure ridges. I’ve been assuming the arctic ice is more sturdy, but this storm may be the test of my assumptions. Bring it on. I’m not too old to learn.

After extended “pre-moderation” my one sentence plug of a plot of old thermometer records was also moderated out, but not before my well baited hook produced three extended public displays of “I’m melting!!!!” spasms by Gorebots. I didn’t take a screenshot since I was so shocked by being able to post again at all that I didn’t even think of it. It used to be they could drag you into technicalities before the warming lull falsified all of the computer models and John Cook of their mothership blog so terribly embarrassed himself with his bogus 97% study so they can’t even link to his other propaganda any more, unless they are masochists.
I think its most disturbing that the sea ice is disappearing and not just melting. Where is it going?
It isn’t disappearing. It turns into water. Then it turns back to ice. Study how the Vikings were able to sail the routes they sailed to Greenland. Ice was absent back then. Or simply look at maps of how far the “old ice” extended down the east coast of Greenland between 2000 and 2006. One year it extends way down the coast, and the next it is gone, and the following year it extends way down the coast again.
These people must think we are living in the 1950s. Do they really believe they can pull of a massive fraud in this day and age?
