More Exceptional Drought For Colorado

The Washington DC based US Drought Monitor says we are having an exceptional drought here in Colorado, with heavy rain and flooding occurring almost every day now.

KUSA – More heavy rain may cause flash flooding across parts of Colorado Monday, according to the Colorado weather forecast.

The Denver weather forecast is calling for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Slow moving storms will bring heavy rain at times and small hail.

The monsoonal flow continues to feed moisture into Colorado, allowing for the chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Storms will form first in the high country and will cross Interstate 25 after 3 p.m.

I get just about the same from NWS:
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST NORTH
    CAROLINA…EAST TENNESSEE AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA.

    .DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT…
SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED AGAIN THIS
AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT…AND WITH HEAVY RAINS EXPECTED IN THE
STRONGER STORMS…FLASH FLOODING OF LOW-LYING AREAS WILL BE
    POSSIBLE.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY…
A WARM…MOIST AIR MASS WILL KEEP A GOOD CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE REGION ON TUESDAY AND TO A LESSER EXTENT
WEDNESDAY BEFORE DRIER AIR TEMPORARILY RETURNS. A FRONTAL PASSAGE
ON TUESDAY MAY PROVIDE THE MOST WIDESPREAD CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY OF
THE WEEK….WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AND DAMAGING WINDS BEING
THE PRIMARY THREATS. ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE IN FROM THE
WEST THIS WEEKEND…PROVIDING ADDITIONAL CHANCES FOR SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS WHICH WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LOCALLY HEAVY
    RAINFALL.

We in the NW are getting our revenge. 2 months now of straight sunshine.

  3. R. Shearer says:

I’ve had to water my lawn only 3 times since the beginning of July here along the Colorado Front Range. That is unprecedented in my experience. If this “drought” continues, this could be one of the best ski seasons ever. Go drought!
