Shame on the US/UK – you never learn from your mistakes. As an Iraqi Christian, with family in Syria who fled Iraq after the consequences of your invasion, It’s a case of deja vu all over again.
Please explain one thing to me, why is the West interested in dismantling secular states in the middle east and replacing them with Islamist-fascist states?
In Iraq, you replaced a secular state, where there was freedom of religion, and my people lived peacefully, with a theocratic Iranian backed government compounded by Wahabbi and Salafist elements that never existed in the country prior to your invasion. Now Iraqi Christians are murdered en masse and cannot worship freely – actually, all Iraqis are being murdered on en masse.
Do you not understand that your ‘democracy’ is not attainable in the middle east? Religious and tribal differences do not permit it. In Iraq, we were happy with the social freedoms under Saddam Hussein – even if it came at the sacrifice of political freedoms. Now, neither exist.
Disrupting the Borg is expensive and time consuming!

I don’t think they were “happy” with Saddam. It was the lesser devil. Democracy can exist in the Middle East if it’s allowed to find its way. And that will have to include a lot of redrawing of borders.

I’d say that while some were “happy” with SH, there were many that survived SH’s big stick who were not happy: they just had no other choice but to grin and bear it. So, I say shame on you!
