Understanding California

When we lived in Mountain View in the late 1990’s, my wife used to hang out with Russians in Rengstorf Park during the day. They told her that the US was wonderful – they didn’t have to work, and were able to live like kings from their government paycheck.

Fewest US Forest Fires In Three Decades

Obama science czar John Holdren says US forest fires doubled this decade, when in fact they did the exact opposite. They have declined by more than 50%

This summer has been very wet in most of the west, and there are no large fires burning outside of California, Oregon and Idaho.  The number of fires is the lowest in three decades, and has plummeted since 2006. (This number will increase a little over the next two months.)

Thanks, Arnie

Californians already pay the nation’s second highest gas tax at 68 cents a gallon — and now it will go up again in January to pay for a first-in-the-nation climate change law.

When gas prices go up, motorists typically blame oil companies, Arab sheiks and Wall Street speculators. This time they can blame Sacramento and former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for passing a bill requiring California to reduce carbon emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.

Estimates of the cost of the tax vary. The California Air Resources Board, the Golden State’s premier anti-pollution agency, predicts the new tax will raise gasoline prices from 20 cents to $1.30 per gallon. A prominent state senator who helped author the bill estimated the cost at 40 cents a gallon. Environmental activists downplay the cost, but hail the impact

Which one do green focus on? They focus on the invisible non-pollutant, instead of the actual critical pollution problem.

Build It, And They Will Come

What goes around, comes around.

I was riding my bicycle back from the gym tonight and saw a White Tail doe and her two small fawns (a new group I hadn’t seen before) wanting to cross the road. I stopped about 30 yards away so that she would feel comfortable enough to signal them to follow. As they started to cross, a big diesel pickup truck came barreling down the hill and looked like he was trying to hit them or scare them. One of the fawns turned back, and then changed his mind and followed his mother. That one missed being hit by less than 20 feet.

It got me thinking about the disregard for life of the helpless in our society. People eat huge quantities of cheap meat from animals raised and killed inhumanely on industrial farms. Millions of unborn children are murdered every year, because adults are unable to take responsibility for their actions.

I’m a firm believer in Karma. We are aren’t punished for our sins, but by them. If we make life cheap, then our lives become cheap too.

Proverb 12:10, “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”

Pay no attention to all this. Just keep believing the mindless propaganda being spewed by the White House and their minions – which is the exact opposite of what is actually happening in the real world.

Today’s Humor

Our resident birthers (the literary agents who advertised Obama as born in in Kenya from 1991 until he announced his candidacy for president in April 2007) – told as today that they write and publish bios for their clients, without bothering to get the clients’ approval of the text.

Besides being unbelievable and unethical, this would be incredibly bad business practice.

Progressives – The New Reactionaries

For progressives, any change is catastrophic. The basis of their argument is that 97% of scientists believe humans influence the climate (probably closer to 100%)

From that nearly meaningless talking point, they conclude that almost all scientists think the climate is about to “collapse.” Propaganda which would make Goebbels blush.
