When future generations try to understand how the world got carried away around the end of the 20th century by the panic over global warming, few things will amaze them more than the part played in stoking up the scare by the fiddling of official temperature data. There was already much evidence of this seven years ago, when I was writing my history of the scare, The Real Global Warming Disaster. But now another damning example has been uncovered by Steven Goddard’s US blog Real Science, showing how shamelessly manipulated has been one of the world’s most influential climate records, the graph of US surface temperature records published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Goddard shows how, in recent years, NOAA’s US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. The effect of this has been to downgrade earlier temperatures and to exaggerate those from recent decades, to give the impression that the Earth has been warming up much more than is justified by the actual data. In several posts headed “Data tampering at USHCN/GISS”, Goddard compares the currently published temperature graphs with those based only on temperatures measured at the time. These show that the US has actually been cooling since the Thirties, the hottest decade on record; whereas the latest graph, nearly half of it based on “fabricated” data, shows it to have been warming at a rate equivalent to more than 3 degrees centigrade per century.

Yesterday, the team was hysterical about a tiny amount of surface melt across 40% of Greenland’s ice sheet.

Today, the spike is gone. Eighteen years of no global warming is just weather, but one relatively warm day in one location is climate.

When Obama was running for president, he said that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman.

As soon as he took office, his views “evolved” on the issue, and now he is pushing homosexuality like it is going out of style.

Regardless of your views on that topic, when a candidate misrepresents his position to the voters – he destroys democracy. Voting becomes meaningless when a candidate lies about his beliefs and intentions. Obama wants to be dictator and force his will on everyone else. He considers other people’s opinions to be uninformed and unnecessary, particularly those of voters.

It is the Constitutional responsibility of the House of Representatives to put an end to this, while they still can.

The White House is focused like a laser on an essential trace gas, which makes up much less than one tenth of one percent of the atmosphere. Secretary of State John Kerry said a few months ago that CO2 was the biggest threat mankind has ever faced.

Since he made that remark, war has broken out in the Ukraine, the US has been invaded by huge numbers of undocumented immigrants, and Iraq has nearly collapsed.

The White House believes that the solution to all of these problems is to confiscate freedom and money from US citizens.

Thirty-nine percent of USHCN data is now fabricated, meaning that there is now 39% more monthly temperature data reported than measured, compared to less than 5% in 1990.

The fabricated data is warming 7°F/century faster than the measured data since 1990, when the data started disappearing.

In fact, the measured TOBS adjusted data shows no warming since 1990. All US warming since 1990 is due to data fabrication.

I am considered a heretic for excluding imaginary temperature data from my analysis, and simply averaging the thermometer data. It is now considered unacceptable by the orthodoxy to use actual measured data.

Progressives are bringing a new definition of freedom to the US, slightly different from the vision millions have given their lives for.

Progressives vision of freedom is being free to get your wang cut off, use any bathroom you want, and then when true freedom arrives – marry your transgender sister or pet.

Almost all life forms emit either CO2 or CH4, which the EPA considers to be dangerous greenhouse gases.

Humans exhale 40,000 PPM CO2, which will eventually and inevitably become an excuse for the government to list humans as biohazards or other toxic waste.

The Sun has begun its descent towards winter, and the high Arctic melt season hasn’t started yet.

I am considered a heretic by some on both sides of the global warming debate, because I refuse to tamper with the raw US data.

I have already shown why you can’t detect baseline tampering using anomalies, and thus should not use them. I have also shown how infilling missing data massively biases the US data towards warming over the past 20 years.

Now I am going to show why gridding is unimportant. The graph below shows my ungridded USHCN final averages in blue, and gridded NCDC temperatures in red.

The slope is almost identical, and the offset is probably mainly due to NCDC’s extra co-op stations. Gridding is unimportant for US data, because the stations are fairly evenly spaced, by design.

On the other hand, the data tampering being done by USHCN is huge. People on both sides of the debate should quit focusing on meaningless precision in tampered data, and instead focus on the huge inaccuracy created by tampering.

With large data sets with a random distribution of error (like missing data) real scientists do not attempt to make corrections. As soon as corrections start being made, the door is opened to confirmation bias at best – and it gets worse from there.

Leave the data alone. You are falling for an old NOAA mind trick.

As of 1975, there was nearly unanimous consensus among experts that the first half of the 20th century was exceptionally warm, and that temperatures had plummeted after 1940. In fact, by the late 1960s, temperatures were colder than they were in 1900.

CLEVELAND, Feb. 16 (A.A.P.) Dr. William S. Carlson, an Arctic expert, said to-night that the Polar icecaps were melting at an astonishing and unexplained rate and were threatening to swamp seaports  by raising the ocean levels.

Professor Ahlmann was speaking on the collated results of his expedition to north-east Greenland, and he stated that the glaciers there showed clear signs of a change towards a warmer climate. As had been observed in other parts of the Arctic, especially in Spitzbergen, the melting had increased rapidly. By far the largest number of local glaciers in northeast Greenland had receded very greatly during recent decades, and it would not be exaggerating to say that these glaciers were nearing a catastrophe.
