Gavin Getting His New Job Done

Gavin has jumped into his new job at GISS of generating fake global warming data for the White House, and has made May the warmest on record globally. Never mind that May, 2014 was an average month, much cooler than 1998 and 2010 – and May temperatures have actually been in decline for 16 years. That isn’t what the boss wants to see.

Watch John Muir Explore Melting Alaskan Glaciers

Watch Climate Scientists Explore Melting Alaskan Glaciers on ‘Earth Focus’ | EcoWatch

Glaciers have been melting in Alaska for thousands of years.

image (1)

As you enter Glacier Bay in Southeast Alaska you will cruise along shorelines completely covered by ice just 200 years ago.

Explorer Captain George Vancouver found Icy Strait choked with ice in 1794, and Glacier Bay was barely an indented glacier. That glacier was more than 4000 ft. thick, up to 20 miles or more wide, and extended more than 100 miles to the St.Elias Range of mountains.

By 1879 naturist John Muir found that the ice had retreated 48 miles up the bay. By 1916 the Grand Pacific Glacier headed Tarr inlet 65 miles from Glacier Bay’s mouth.

Understanding Berkeley Earth

Berkeley Earth is headed by a former skeptic who says he never was a skeptic, and a chief scientist who apparently never was a scientist.

By Richard Muller on December 17, 2003

Let me be clear. My own reading of the literature and study of paleoclimate suggests strongly that carbon dioxide from burning of fossil fuels will prove to be the greatest pollutant of human history. It is likely to have severe and detrimental effects on global climate. I would love to believe that the results of Mann et al. are correct, and that the last few years have been the warmest in a millennium.

Richard Muller, Climate Researcher, Navigates The Volatile Line Between Science And Skepticism

Steven Mosher is an English major with a long career in marketing and technology who is known for wasting everyone’s time by making indecipherable drive-by comments on skeptic websites. He is not an “aerospace engineer”, he is not an “open-source software developer” and he is certainly not a “scientist” (despite all ridiculous claims to the contrary).

IRS Working To Recover Data From A Non-Existent Hard Drive

I was listening to a House meeting this morning querying the new director of the IRS. He was asked why the IRS waited months to tell the committee about the lost Lerner E-mails and the damaged hard drive. He responded by saying that they were trying to recover the E-mails and didn’t want to make an incomplete report.

A few minutes later he said that the hard drive was sent to recycling in 2011.

In other words, they found all kinds of damning evidence in Lois (I plead the fifth) Lerner’s E-mails, and then spent a few months strategizing about how best to destroy the evidence.

We saw this same story 40 years ago. Nixon said he was not a crook. Obama says there was not a smidgen of corruption.

1974

Forty years ago, there was a lot going on. Nixon resigned. I took my first computer programming class at ASU that year. It was the peak year of the global cooling scare, which Time Magazine was pushing during Arizona’s worst heatwave on record.

ScreenHunter_562 Jun. 20 08.56

Arizona was experiencing their worst heatwave on record this week 40 years ago, with 19 straight days over 110 degrees in Phoenix. Wickenburg, Az set their all-time high temperature record of 116 degrees.

April, 1974 brought the worst outbreak of severe tornadoes in US history. Darwin was destroyed by a cyclone on Christmas, 1974.

I played on the ASU soccer team in 1974 (still a self-funded club sport at that time) and we practiced every afternoon at 3 PM – typically in 104-110 degree heat. None seemed particularly worried about global cooling.

The White House says the climate is getting more extreme, which takes me back to Nixon.

The 97% Is Really 100%

Every scientist understands that humans influence the climate. Cities are well known to be much warmer than surrounding countryside. Chopping down forests changes the climate. Greenhouse gases obviously influence the climate. The most common greenhouse gas is water vapor, and everyone understands that humid climates are different from dry climates.

So the 97% of scientists who believe in man-made global warming is actually closer to 100%. The problem is that Democrats claim that 97% of scientists believe global warming is imminent and dangerous. The repeated that over and over again this week, yet there is no evidence to back up their claim.

As far as I know, there has never been any survey done asking a broad group of scientists if global warming is dangerous.  That certainly isn’t a word which comes up very often in scientific literature.

In 1999, NASA’s James Hansen (the worlds best known climate alarmist) wrote:

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought

NASA GISS: Science Briefs: Whither U.S. Climate?

A few months ago, the American Meteorological Society took a poll of its members and found that only 52% believe global warming is primarily caused by man. Among professional forecasters, the number was even lower.

journals.ametsoc.org/doi/pdf/10.1175/BAMS-D-13-00091.1

Barely half of atmospheric scientists believe global warming is primarily due to man, much less imminent and dangerous.

The Democratic claims of  scientific support for their position – are 97%  propaganda, and it forms the cornerstone of their argument.

My Response To The EPA Hearings This Week

In one corner, we had very organized and well scripted Democrats pushing mindless dishonest global warming propaganda. On the other side (with a few exceptions) we had clueless, disarmed Republicans mumbling incoherently against the EPA regulations.

The Democrats had numerous present and former EPA administrators verbally backing up their claims. The major claims were :

  1. 97% of scientists agree that global warming is real, imminent and dangerous
  2. Heatwaves are becoming more common
  3. Severe weather is becoming more common and extreme
  4. Sea level is rising due to global warming and threatens coastal regions

There isn’t one shred of evidence to support the idea that most scientists believe global warming is imminent and dangerous. The Democrats tack those words on to a completely benign (and obvious) finding that most scientists believe humans influence the climate. It is beyond my comprehension why Republicans repeatedly let them get away with that.

The EPA’s own data shows that heatwaves are not becoming more common in the US, and peaked 80 years ago.

ScreenHunter_556 Jun. 20 05.14high-low-temps-figure1-2014

Heat waves in the 1930s remain the most severe heat waves in the U.S. historical record (see Figure 1).

High and Low Temperatures | Climate Change | US EPA

The Republicans could have discredited the EPA administrators by simply showing this graph, which is prominently displayed on the EPA web site.

Extreme weather is not becoming more common or more severe. Obama’s presidency has seen the fewest US hurricane strikes of any president since at least 1850. There have been three US hurricane strikes since Obama took office, compared to twenty-six while Grover Cleveland was president.

Weather Extremes : What is the Most Rain to Ever Fall in One Minute or One Hour? | Weather Underground

There isn’t one shred of legitimate evidence to back up the claim that the weather is becoming more extreme.

As far as sea level goes, it has been rising for 20,000 years, and is 400 feet higher now than it was when the first Americans walked across the Bering Strait from Asia.

ScreenHunter_557 Jun. 20 05.39

File:Post-Glacial Sea Level.png – Global Warming Art

More recent observations of sea level show that there is no human influence. Sea level on the East Coast (blue below) appears to have been rising at a steady rate since the start of measurements in 1850. It shows no acceleration as CO2 increased, indicating that there is no human influence on sea level.

On the west coast (red below) sea level rise rates are much lower, indicating that what is being observed on the East Coast is land sinking, rather than oceans rising.

ScreenHunter_558 Jun. 20 05.51

None of the scary Democrat/EPA claims are backed by evidence, and are nothing more than carefully planned, well versed propaganda – yet the Republicans remain incapable of mounting a coherent response. If the Republicans were educated and organized, they would be able to shut this scam down in a matter of days.
