An earlier version of this article suggested that the gunman in the Connecticut shooting used a rifle to carry out the shootings inside the Sandy Hook Elementary School. In fact, according to law enforcement, the guns used in the school shooting were both handguns.
On the morning of the shooting, CNN showed the police running into a different school.
The local newspaper reported that an armed off-duty SWAT team member from another town was in the woods outside the school where the shooting occurred.
A man with a gun who was spotted in the woods near the school on the day of the incident was an off-duty tactical squad police officer from another town, according to the source.

We’re Still Losing Ice at the Poles

One of the key indicators and consequences of global warming is ice loss at the Earth’s poles. As the planet warms, on average and over time, every summer more ice melts. It refreezes in the winter, but again as temperatures rise, in general we’ll see less ice at any given time as compared to the year before.
Polar sea ice area is the highest in 25 years.
