Boulder Flood Update

I got some flood reports from people I know in Boulder. They all said – water in the basements, no other damage, no wall of water, wildly exaggerated by the press, life back to normal today.

Estes Park has some serious problems though, because it is a tourist town and the roads are washed out.

Shock News : Obama Lied About Global Warming

At a fund-raiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign   Committee in Chicago May 29, he had said: “We … know that   the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or   ten years ago.” He had added: “I don’t have much patience for   people who deny climate change.

It turns out that the exact opposite is true.

A leaked copy of the world’s most authoritative climate study reveals scientific forecasts of imminent doom were drastically wrong.

The Mail on Sunday has obtained the final draft of a report to be published later this month by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the ultimate watchdog whose massive, six-yearly ‘assessments’ are accepted by environmentalists, politicians and experts as the gospel of climate science.

They are cited worldwide to justify swingeing fossil fuel taxes and subsidies for ‘renewable’ energy.

Yet the leaked report makes the extraordinary concession that the world has been warming at only just over half the rate claimed by the IPCC in its last assessment,  published in 2007.

Back then, it said that the planet was warming at a rate of 0.2C every decade – a figure it claimed was in line with the forecasts made by computer climate models.

But the new report says the true figure since 1951 has been only 0.12C per decade – a rate far below even the lowest computer prediction.

What would really be shocking would be if Obama ever told the truth, or did anything for the benefit of the American people..

Colorado Climate Refugees

Fort Collins police appear to be directing climate refugees to a centralized area at the CSU football stadium parking lot.

Viewed from above, you can see that many have lost everything, except for their pickup truck, hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecued chicken, potato chips, nachos, salsa, and a large aluminum container on the tailgate containing some sort of beverage which looks and tastes similar to horse piss (Coors Light perhaps?)

The Specious Long Term Trend

Our friends keep pointing out that current Arctic ice gains are irrelevant, because the trend since the peak in 1979 is down.

This argument is ridiculous. In order to break the post 1979 downwards trend, the summer minimum would have necessarily had to have been over 21 million km². Even the sudden onset of an ice age wouldn’t break the post-1979 trend for several years.

The Latest Theory From Team Climate Moron

You can’t make up stupid like this. First they claim that global warming is causing glaciers to retreat away from the sea.  Now they claim that global warming is causing glaciers to advance towards the sea.

Until they noticed that their theory wasn’t working a few weeks ago, they were screaming that all of the ice would be gone this year because of global warming. Now they say the exact opposite.

Sea ice forms at the periphery of the ice pack as cold air freezes seawater. The contribution of glacial ice is tiny, and occurs near land.  Record Antarctic sea ice (by definition) forms far away from land.

Kerry Reaches A Deal With Russia

Syria pretends to get rid of their chemical weapons, Obama takes credit for it, UN discussions begin to condemn US support of the “rebels” – and Russia has cover to help Iran speed up their nuclear weapons program.

Kerry and Obama make Neville Chamberlain look like a brilliant strategist. Can you imagine what Putin says about Obama in private?

Understanding Colorado Flooding

The Poudre River in Fort Collins drains more than 500 square miles of mountains and empties through a narrow canyon.

Upslope winds force humid air from the plains up into the mountains. The air expands, cools and drops below its dew point. Rain falls and floods occur.

In 1976, the Big Thompson drainage received 14 inches of rain in four hours and produced one of America’s most deadly floods. This week’s rains have been nowhere near that intense.

In 1997, Spring Creek in Fort Collins received 10 inches of rain in four hours, and produced a flood with killed five people. Again, that rainfall was much more intense than this week.

In 1965, the South Platte River drainage received 15 inches of rain in 14 hours, and produced a flood with killed twenty-one people. Rainfall was much more intense than this week.

In 1921, a similar rain killed 1,200 people in Pueblo, Colorado.

People talking about biblical or 1,000 year rainfall have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. These floods can be expected somewhere along the Front Range every couple of decades.

A Few Things To Know Before Moving To Colorado

  • Forests burn. Some species of pine trees in Colorado can not reproduce without regular catastrophic crown fires. If you build your house in the pine forest, it will burn.
  • Flood plains flood. If you build your house on a flood plain below a constricted canyon draining 1,000 square miles of the Rocky Mountains, it is going to flood. Upslope winds on mountains frequently produce extreme amounts of rain and snow.
  • Coloradans like rifles. Shooting is one of the most popular forms of recreation. If you don’t like rifles, stay in California where the Bill of Rights is illegal.
  • Winter here is very long. Don’t make a decision to move here based on a vacation you took in August.

Most important. If you do move here with your Prius smug and build your house in a stupid place, don’t blame CO2 for your stupidity. And keep your hands off the Bill of Rights.
