Retail Sales Plunge Amid Late Cold Weather

The UK’s economic recovery takes a new knock as official figures show that consumers held on to their cash in April.

Retail sales suffered their biggest monthly drop in a year in April as cold weather and restricted household budgets combined to damage demand on the high street.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said retail sales volumes including automotive fuel fell by 1.3% during the month compared to March, compounding economists’ forecasts for a flat performance.

Compared with a year earlier, sales rose by a far less than estimated 0.5%.

Sales of food plunged 4.1% on the month – the worst showing in almost two years – while sales of barbecue food and garden furniture were particularly badly affected as Spring took its time to arrive.

House Republicans pushed through a bill Wednesday to bypass the president to speed approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. Democrats criticized the legislation as a blatant attempt to allow a foreign company to avoid environmental review.

The bill was approved, 241-175, largely along party lines.

But this winter won’t let go: Fresh snowfall over the weekend, followed by temperatures in the teens and mid-20s through the weekend culminated with a record low of 14 degrees Saturday morning. The chill disrupted local businesses trying to get their seasons started.

It is very unfortunate that these experts don’t have the integrity to admit that they were wrong.

In 1886, Cuba and the US got slammed by one hurricane after another.

In the month of June 1886 alone, the US was hit by three category 2 hurricanes. Four more hurricanes hit that summer, including two major hurricanes – one of which wiped the town of Indianola, Texas off the map. CO2 was below 300 PPM at the time.

By contrast, the US has had only three hurricane strikes since Obama took office, none of which were above category 1. Obama’s teleprompter whines endlessly about CO2 driven hurricanes, despite the fact that he has had the fewest hurricanes of any president.

Pfeiffer then somewhat quixotically replied that, “no one was sure at that point.”

Crowley countered that saying “well, no the President, first of all in Libya they were sure of it and the CIA seemed pretty sure of it!”

She just happened to have a transcript at the podium – of Obama’s speech in the Rose Garden on 9/12. And Obama just happened to guess that she had that transcript at the podium.

Candy Crowley and Obama colluded in the debate. It’s obvious. How would Obama know to tell her to “Get the transcript!” unless they had planned a response ahead of time on the Benghazi issue? Then, Crowley enabled Obama’s lie about the topic and cut Romney off. The next set of questions that must be asked must deal with the supervisors who knew that the collusion took place prior to the debate.
